There’s been a lot of conflicting and inaccurate information circulating on social media about the CERB benefit. For individuals who are employees that have been laid off, the eligibility and application process is fairly simple. However in the original roll out of the CERB benefit, self-employed contractors, Sole Proprietors and small businesses were not eligible for any financial support. In a news release from Ottawa today the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit would be a simpler and more accessible combination of the previously announced Emergency Care Benefit and Emergency Support Benefit. The new Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) aid package is coming in early April. Other reports indicate applications could be made as early as April 6th, 2020 with payments to qualified taxpayers under the CERB benefit expected to be in taxpayer's hands approximately 10 days after submitting their application. News release from Ottawa today on the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) aid package which they say is coming in early April. According to the PM's news update earlier this afternoon followed by the official news release noted below, there will be a new website coming online to handle applications for the CERB benefit for those who have lost their income due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and don't qualify for Employment Insurance. Hopefully further details will be released prior to early April when the application process commences.
