And some are both dirty and beautiful, like this perfect little art project left by a song bird... ::Mushroom Gummies!:: Finally found a big enough flush of Cats Tongue Fungus (Pseudohydnum gelatinosum) to make gummies! I've read mixed reviews of these, but there was no way I wasn't going to try it. I soaked half the mushrooms overnight in a homemade lemon syrup (sugar, water, lemon rind), and the other half in a mixture of the lemon syrup and maraschino cherry syrup (hence the red color). After their overnight soak, I placed them in my dehydrator and let them go for 6... hours at 130 degrees F or about 55 degrees C. Afterwards I put them on a plate of powder sugar because they were quite sticky. THEY ARE DELICIOUS! no mushroom flavor at all, just pure gummy bear flavor and perfect gummy bear texture. Sometimes I'll be in the forest and feel like the medicine of mushrooms is more in their presence than the consumption of them! I just want to make art with these turkey tails. Presently though I'll be drying my batch this year and brewing them in winter decoctions with fir needle and Reishi, sweetened with fir bud honey! It tastes like Christmas in a cup. ... This particular mushroom has been so extensively studied, that there have even been pharmaceuticals derived from it in Japan which are used to treat cancer along with other conventional medicine. Pretty cool!
