From Mr. Joel Slofstra: "...It would be foolish of us... to think that we are able to be in this new building simply because of all of things that we did. God is faithful to WRCA. This Junior School building, and now this Senior School building are a testament to God’s faithfulness..." Video: https://vimeo.com/489984063

First day back: TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8 As planned* Last week, the BC Minister of Education released a statement that some schools may need more time to prepare for re-opening schools in September. WRCA will not need this additional time and expect the first full day of school for all students (G1 to G12) to still be on Tuesday, 8 September. *Note: Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will still continue to have a gradual entry - Monday, 14 September for Kindergarten an...d Tuesday, 15 September for Junior Kindergarten. Over the past weekend, we received the Ministry of Education guidelines for re-opening schools, and the principals and I have met to begin preparations for the WRCA re-opening plan. The plan will include protocols, administrative measures and communicating a shift from density targets to cohorts (or defined learning groups). Cohorts reduce the number of in-person, close interactions a person has in school. We have decided to define our cohorts by grade. So this means, in most cases, that both classes in each grade will comprise a cohort. The plan will also include safety and health protocols inside and outside classrooms. We will communicate this extensive plan to parents by the end of the week. David Michel Head of School
And just like that, another school year is over and done with. In a year that has already become historic, we pause to thank our community for the partnership, dedication, and love. COVID has been a challenge but TOGETHER we did it. We applaud our students for being flexible and adaptable, and our parents for being loving and dedicated. We thank our staff for working in an unprecedented time and coming out with our heads held high. Have a blessed summer and we’ll see you in September. Be kind. Be calm. Be safe.
A heartfelt "see you soon" to Mr. Terry Neufeld who has faithfully served WRCA for 7 years. We will miss you and your wonderful family as you head overseas, but look forward to your return in 2 (short) years. Mr. Neufeld wanted to share the following (from our newsletter): Well, where to begin. My WRCA journey began in 2013 while I was actually teaching French Immersion at Brookswood Secondary (crazy right?). I got a call from Jono Harris, who was WRCA's Vice Principal at th...e time, that I should consider applying for a position that they had open. I was living in Vancouver and had just been hired by the Richmond School District so that I could work closer to home. I had no idea what God had planned for my life and my family’s life. It has been a crazy ride. I’ve gone on MSL trips to Indonesia and Romania, Basketball trips to San Diego. I’ve had students get married, I’ve even worked with former students, baptized students and been at the baptisms of others. Three of my daughters started school here and our whole family have made lasting friendships. WRCA has become our home. The WRCA community has become an extension of our family. All this and we know it’s time for new adventures. We really don’t know what our future will look like, but we do know that we serve one who does. We would appreciate your prayers as we move our life to Indonesia in the next month or two, as times are a little crazy right now and getting a house packed and a family moved across the world is no easy feat in the best of circumstances. My prayer for the school is that you don’t lose sight of who you are. Just as we talk about the church being people and not a building, what makes this school special is people and not a building. Continue to care for each other as I’ve witnessed and to walk faithfully cultivating citizens of Godly character who [truly do] transform their world for Christ. Thank you to all of the staff, students and families who have made my time at WRCA truly special. I’ll leave you with my life verse: Stop and consider God’s wonders Job 37:14. AKA Stop and look around once in awhile
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, mentors, and father figures in the WRCA community! Blessings to you!Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, mentors, and father figures in the WRCA community! Blessings to you!
