You asked, we answered! "What's your favourite moment helping someone?" "Whenever I can get an anxious, nervous child to complete their treatment (usually a filling) with me and I know they had a good experience and will feel more comfortable at their next visit, I feel like I'm right where I should be!" - Dr. Kristina Pahuta, DMD

6 Trick-or-Treat Tips for Healthy Teeth! Time It Right Eat Halloween candy with meals or shortly after mealtime. Saliva production increases during meals. This helps cancel out acids produced by bacteria in your mouth and rinse away food particles.... Stay Away from Sweet Snacks Snacking can increase your risk of cavities, and its double the trouble if you keep grabbing sugary treats from the candy bowl. Choose Candy Carefully Avoid hard candy and other sweets that stay in your mouth for a long time. Aside from how often you snack, the length of time sugary food is in your mouth plays a role in tooth decay. Unless it is a sugar-free product, candies that stay in the mouth for a long period of time subject teeth to an increased risk for tooth decay. Avoid Sticky Situations Sticky candies cling to your teeth. The stickier candies, like taffy and gummy bears, take longer to get washed away by saliva, increasing the risk for tooth decay. Brush Twice a Day Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste. Remember, replace your toothbrush every three or four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush won't do a good job of cleaning your teeth. Clean Between Your Teeth Floss your teeth once a day. Decay-causing bacteria get between teeth where toothbrush bristles can't reach. Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line.

Everyone needs a dentist. We would like you to know more about our staff before your visit. Dr. Kristina Pahuta, DMD: 1) What year did you start in dentistry?... 2007- dental school, GPR (General practice residency) 2011-2012, private practice since 2012 2) Why did you get into the dentistry field? It was kind of a happy accident! I knew I wanted to be in the health care field, but knew I didn't want to be a doctor, so when a good friend decided to write the DAT (Dental Aptitutde Test), I thought "why not?"- and here I am! 3) Why did you become a dentist? It offered me the perfect combination of biology and creativity, being able to use both my hands and my brain every day, the opportunity to help people and actually see the results of that help in real time! 4) What's your favourite moment helping someone? Whenever I can get an anxious, nervous child to complete their treatment (usually a filling) with me and I know they had a good experience and will feel more comfortable at their next visit, I feel like I'm right where I should be! 5) What is one thing interesting about you? I have a 1 year old daughter named Adeline 6) Who is your favourite superhero and why? Is Harry Potter a super hero? I'll go with Harry Potter- he's truly magic and a brave, up-standing person who does the right thing no matter how difficult it may be. 7) Position and Qualifications Principal dentist, HonBSc from University of Toronto, DMD (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) from University of British Columbia, General Practice residency completed at Mt Sinai Hospital, Toronto Dont hesitate to contact us about setting up your time to come in.
