Prairies: Localized heavy snow, upwards of 15 cm for some. The region will see several types of precipitation this week including rain, snow, and freezing rain. A low pressure system is spreading Pacific moisture across the Rockies and will bring widespread snow to the Prairies, with around 3-5 cm for Edmonton and Calgary and between 15 to 30 cm in higher elevation regions. The snow will then track eastward and will between 10 to 20 cm of snow to central regions of Saskatchew...an and Manitoba and even a brief period of freezing rain to Saskatoon. Details and timing, below. WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS: Between 3 to 5 cm of snow for Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon through Tuesday Up to 30 cm of snow in higher elevations in parts of Alberta. MONDAY: SNOWFALL BEGINS The snow will begin across the B.C. Interior and the Elbow Region of Alberta on Sunday night and will continue into Monday morning as it spreads eastward. Regions surrounding Edmonton will see light snow during this time that will continue throughout the afternoon hours. Areas of northern Saskatchewan will see the light snow throughout Monday evening. Temperatures across southern Alberta and Saskatchewan will be slightly above seasonal on Monday afternoon and many in these regions will see temperatures in the upper single digits. During this time there will be the chance of light rain showers in the Calgary area as the system tracks through. A brief warm front will spread a swath of snow across Saskatchewan and Manitoba and brings the brief risk of freezing rain near Saskatoon on Monday night. Temperatures will cool throughout the evening hours and the Calgary area will see a transition from light rain showers to snow, which will also occur for southward areas into Tuesday morning. TUESDAY: PRECIPITATION VARIES AS SYSTEM TRACKS THROUGH The heaviest snowfall from this system will be across northwestern Alberta and the foothills, as well as northern Saskatchewan into Manitoba, particularly into the northern Inter-lake Region. By Tuesday afternoon mild conditions will extend into southern Manitoba with light rain, however, the snow will continue for the northern Inter-lake Region. The system will then track into northwestern Ontario and will leave cooling temperatures with rain changing to snow as it exits the Prairies.

Ontario: Wintry mess of snow, ice threaten first day of December. here will be a brief breather before a second Colorado low threatens messy, wintry weather for the weekend in southern Ontario. A winter-like system is set to track into southern Ontario and will bring the potential for snow, ice pellets and freezing rain late Saturday night and Sunday. This system will feature mixed precipitation with some areas seeing rain transition to snow, while other could see hours of fr...eezing rain that could accumulate and make for difficult road conditions. More on the timing of this weekend system, plus a look at the colder pattern locking in for the middle of December, below. WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS: Low pressure system will bring freezing rain, ice pellets and snow late Saturday night and into Sunday Colder patterns looks to arrive during the second week of December. Arctic air behind the departing the low pressure system that is tracking towards the Maritimes is bringing in much colder temperatures for Friday, especially in comparison to the mild double digit daytime highs that kicked off the week in southern Ontario. As a new low pressure system approaches the region, precipitation could start as rain across extreme southwestern Ontario Saturday night. Through the overnight hours and into Sunday morning, a period of freezing rain and ice pellets is expected. This threatens to create slippery road conditions for areas west of Toronto and over higher terrain, especially on a typically busy travel day for those returning from U.S. Thanksgiving celebrations. Pre-dawn Sunday into the late morning, precipitation could fall as freezing rain and ice pellets, which could cause roads to be slick and hazardous for drivers. "Many people across the Greater Toronto Area may be waking up to light snow on Sunday, but by the afternoon, the back edge of the snow should be east of the GTA as it continues through eastern parts of the province," says Weather Network meteorologist Nadine Hinds-Powell. North and east of Toronto, most of the precipitation is expected to fall as snow with initial indications showing between 5-10 cm of accumulation. Local accumulations up to 15 cm are also possible for cottage country and parts of eastern Ontario. Snow totals will be much lower to the west and south of Toronto as the precipitation is expected to fall as ice pellets and freezing rain. Several hours of freezing rain and ice pellets is possible above the escarpment to the west of the GTA, including the Kitchener and Waterloo area. Anywhere south of London, along the shores of Erie, and the Niagara region will mainly see rain on Sunday as temperatures are expected to hover above zero. While temperatures are expected to be within a few degrees of seasonal for much of next week, a colder and more wintry pattern looks to lock in for the second week of December.
