Happy National Bubble Bath Day! . Who knew that was a thing . In our house, we definitely don’t do bubble baths every night but they are fun once in a while. However, I do like to incorporate a bath into our bedtime routine most nights.... . A solid bedtime routine is the first step of our journey into a peaceful sleep. My go-to bedtime routine is simple and to the point. It takes about 30-45 minutes from start to finish and still works well when you add a couple kids to the mix. . Bedtime Routine Breast or Bottle Feed (age dependent) Bath & Brush Teeth (if not bathing every night, a warm cloth to the face and hands will do) Lotion, PJ’s, Sleep Sack/Swaddle (age appropriate) Story &/or Song Crib/Bed . It doesn’t need to be fancy, just consistent. Something that your child can anticipate night after night. . For more on my go-to bedtime routine, check out my latest blog post. I have also provided my go-to nap routine there as well. . https://www.wholenightsleepconsulting.com//my-go-to-bedtim

Good thing she is so darn cute! . We are going through some major separation anxiety over here. Anyone else’s baby not wanting to be put down or protesting naps . The good news is that it passes (to be honest, the cuddles are lovely but with homeschooling right now...)... . For the last week or so Etta has been napping for 30-45 min (her norm is 1.5 hrs per nap). She has also been super clingy to me and fussing even when my husband holds her (developmentally, this is completely normal). Since this started, we have been giving her a full hour in the crib with naps when she wakes early. And today it paid off! She went back to sleep Let’s hope this continues. . #tiptuesday . The colour of nightlight matters! . A dark room is always best, but if your child is at the age where they are wanting a bit of light due to fears, pick a light that puts off more of a red or yellow glow. Blue or white lights have been shown to suppress melatonin (the hormone that helps us fall and stay asleep).

Are you able to tell when your baby is ready to sleep? . Did you know that crying and fussiness is actually a sign of being OVERTIRED? It’s so important to catch those early sleepy cues so that we can get our little ones to bed before they become overtired. . Know your child’s sleepy cues!... . Early Sleepy Cues - red eyebrows - averts eyes - blank stares - yawning Late Sleepy Cues - turns head away - pulling ears/hair - becoming fussy - crying . When your baby start showing these late cues, it can be more of a challenge for him to fall asleep. AND when he does fall asleep, it can be more disjointed and restless. . Watch for those early cues to help your little one have a great sleep! . **If your baby doesn’t give clear tired cues (or goes straight from happy to crying) be sure to watch the clock and follow age appropriate awake windows** See more
