Recently, we joined several other District 5370 Rotary Clubs to raise the $10,000 USD required to fund a Global Grant Scholarship for Anna-Marie Robertson. Global Grant Scholarships fund graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years and Anna-Marie will be using this scholarship to support her studies at Georgetown University where she will be studying international law. Global grant scholars plan to pursue a career in one of Rotary's area of focus and... Anna-Marie's studies align with the peace and conflict prevention/resolution area of focus. Congratulations, Anna-Marie! We look forward to hearing all about your research. #ServiceAboveSelf #Rotary #Scholarship

Service above self is a trait that Whyte Avenue Rotary members, and all Rotarians, admire and strive to demonstrate. The Whyte Knight Award was created by our club to recognize the commitment of our fun, fearless, and focused members in serving others. On Tuesday, Kristin Jennings, the past recipient of the award, presented The Whyte Knight Award to Michelle Okere for her service. Michelle is a passionate and dedicated member of our club who embodies service above self. Congratulations Michelle!

Last night, we had Strini Reddy from the Rotary Club of Winnipeg present to our club on an exciting project that they’ve taken on to empower women and their families in South Africa by helping them create food security and self-sufficiency. The Rotary Club of Winnipeg, along with the Rotary Club of Gibsons in British Columbia, the Hippo Roller Foundation, and their South African partner the Rotary Club of Hillcrest, have embarked on a long-term COVID-19 response project cal...led 1000 Survival Gardens to help women in remote villages in South Africa to grow their own food during the pandemic and into the future. A few club Christmas elves back at it again - dropped off 81 Christmas cards at the Ritchie shelter tonight! Thank you to members of our club, family members of the club and members of the Strathcona County Rotaract club for writing Christmas well wishes for some our neighbours experiencing homelessness. #spreadingChristmasCheer

We are thrilled to share that the new Fresh Routes Mobile Grocery Store stop at the The Neighbour Centre will be running on Mondays from 2-3 pm in the cafe (at the back of the building), effective immediately. The Neighbour Centre is a longtime partner of ours and we are proud to have supported this initiative with the help of a district grant. Let’s spread the word: the stop is open to absolutely everyone, and the more folks who shop with them, the better! Please tell your friends and families about this stop - and pop in yourself to grab some groceries while you're at it.

When the pandemic was declared, the Mustard Seed meal service was halted due to restrictions enacted by AHS. Unfortunately, this meant that the usual 200-400 recipients of meals at their 96th Street location could not be served. It took a little over two weeks for the service agency to adapt to the restrictions and find a way to engage volunteers in a safe way to get meals out to those in need with the Dinner 2 Door program launching officially on April 1. Arrangements were ...made for volunteer teams to cook at their facility in a safe, socially distant manner. Volunteers were engaged for meal delivery every weeknight with approximately 228 packages of cooked meals heading out to community members experiencing food insecurity. Our club, with support of friends of the club and members of the YEG Passport Club has successfully delivered pre-made meals every Thursday for the past six weeks and will continue to deliver meals until the end of the month (with one volunteer spot still available on November 26th). Thanks to everyone for stepping up and helping our neighbours in need. Sign up: https://portal.clubrunner.ca//mustard-seed-dinner-delivery

Last week, we had the pleasure of learning more about club member, Jennifer Laughton during her Who’s Who presentation. Jenn has a long history with Rotary, including a youth exchange that took her to Russia. This experience prepared her for an incredible opportunity over a decade later, leading her back to Russia to complete her PhD work on the Baikal Archaeology Project in the Cis-Baikal region of Siberia. Thanks for sharing, Jenn! #rotary #rotaryinternational #youthexchange #rotaryclub #russia #rotarycanada #peopleofaction #rotaryopensopportunities #community
