Sage May Fight Multiple Cancers and Has Proven Health Benefits: Researchers have shown in this new study that extracts of the common herb sage powerfully suppre...ssed multiple cancers at the lab scale, including cervical, liver, colon and lung cancers as well as melanoma. Population studies from Italy have already confirmed that eating sage is linked to reduced cancer risk in people: those eating the herb at least once weekly had 32% less melanoma, while those eating sage regularly (exact dose not given) had 57% less lung cancer. What makes this herb so powerful? Its rich in thujone, cineole, carnosol, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acidall powerful antioxidants and known cancer-fighters in their own rights. And fighting cancer is just one of their benefits. Clinical trials on humans have already shown that sage significantly improves memory in older adults (dose: 333 mg of extract daily), enhances cognitive performance in patients with Alzheimers (dose: 60 drops daily of liquid extract), and lowers fasting blood sugar, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in type II diabetics (dose: 500 mg extract daily). Sage can be consumed as supplements, prepared as a tea, or used generously as a herb in a variety of dishes. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26839997 See more

Sweet Potato is Toxic to Breast Cancer: Researchers are one step closer to understanding how sweet potato reduces breast cancer risk in women (by 30% for women ...eating it three times weekly). In this new study, sweet potato extracts proved so toxic to metastatic breast cancer cells, they killed off up to 89% of them in 24 hours. The most potent extracts were those with the highest levels of beta-carotene, chlorogenic acid, quercetin, kaempferol, gallic acid and myricetin. Sweet potatoes are a particularly good source of all of them, and (not surprisingly) each one is known to powerfully suppress cancer. As an added benefit, sweet potatoes are also rich in the alkalizing mineral potassium (475 mg per serving) which is one third more than bananas, and delivers over 160% the alkalizing power of pure lemon juice! Eating sweet potato three times weekly has also been linked to reduced risk of kidney cancer risk (-56%) and gallbladder cancer (-67%) in other studies. So this Thanksgiving and Christmas, try some new sweet potato recipes! Theyre great in pie, boiled and mashed, steamed, or my personal favorite: roasted with herbs, olive oil and sea salt until golden brown and crisp on the edges. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27234523 See more

Women concerned about cervical cancer may want try adding the leafy green vegetable purslane to their diets. Researchers have just found that purslane extracts ...not only killed 89% of human cervical cancer cells in vitro, but also slowed tumor growth in mice by 50%. This comes after previous studies showing similar effects with breast cancer, liver cancer and lung cancer cells. Purslane is a nutrient-rich vegetable used in Southern Europe, Asia and the Middle East as both food and medicine. In Chinese folklore, its called the vegetable for long life. It also grows wild on the island of Crete, and has been credited as a factor in the Cretans famously long and healthy lives. Besides delivering high amounts of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium, its a very rich source of the omega-3 fat ALA (also found in flax seeds) and four very potent anticancer flavonoids: kaempferol, apigenin, luteolin, and quercetin. Purslane has long been used as a traditional remedy for diabetes, and a recent clinical trial indeed showed that it helped adults with type 2 diabetes by significantly lowering their blood sugar, cholesterol, triglyceridesand even helped them lose weight! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23768576 See more

New Study Shows Avocado May Fight Breast Cancer: In this just-published study, researchers found that peptides taken from avocados were highly toxic to breast c...ancer cells, killing over 80% of them in a test tube. Intriguingly, another recent study showed that when avocado extract was added to tamoxifen, it increased the death rate of breast cancer cells over seven-fold compared to tamoxifen alone! Besides being rich in heart healthy mono-unsaturated fats, avocados are a great source of potassium, magnesium, B vitamins, carnitine, dietary fiber, lutein, and other powerful antioxidants that we are just beginning to understand. In fact, avocados have proven several health benefits in clinical trials! They lowered cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides (dose: one fruit daily), decreased appetite after mealtime (dose: fruit), and helped healthy adults to lose weight (dose: 0.5 to 1.5 fruits daily). And yet another large population study in the USA showed that those eating avocados regularly (70 grams daily) had an incredible 50% reduced risk for metabolic syndrome! Avocados go great in any green salad, vegetable smoothie, marinated (try Italian salad dressing). But my personal favorite remains guacamole, as the other ingredients (tomato, chilies, lime, cilantro, red onion) are all anti-cancer super foods in their own rights. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27470405 See more

Tomato Successfully Fights Prostate Cancer in Clinical Trial: In this just-published study out of Europe, prostate cancer patients significantly lowered their P...SA levels after just 3 weeks of eating at least one serving daily of tomato products such as pizza or spaghetti sauce (200 grams per day) or juice (250 ml per day)enough to get at least 30 mg daily of lycopene. Meanwhile, patients not eating tomato products saw their PSA levels increase during that same time. PSA is a marker for prostate cancer, with lower levels indicating a less aggressive cancer. Importantly, men eating the most tomato products had the biggest drops in PSA. This is great news for cancer patients, but dont forget that eating tomatoes is associated with reducing the risk for getting multiple cancers in the first place: studies have shown 43% less risk for prostate cancer (at 5 servings weekly), 80% less colon cancer, 50% less lung cancer 41% less risk of breast cancer and 70% less risk for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Although you should cook tomatoes to absorb their lycopene more efficiently, eating them raw also has benefits. They go great in smoothies, together with greens in any salad, in sandwiches or drizzled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and freshly cut basil leaves. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27406859 See more

Figs Slow Breast Cancer Growth in Vivo and Fight Cancer in Humans: Figs contain a very unique and powerful antioxidant called morin which researchers have jus...t discovered not only slows the spreading (adhesion) of breast cancer cells in a test tube, but also slowed the spread of breast cancer in mice. Figs offer much more than just morin, though. They are one of the richest sources of cancer-fighting polyphenols in our diet (second only to dates) and fig extracts have been shown to kill multiple types of cancer cells. More importantly, a recent study from Jordan showed that adults eating one serving daily of figs had 49% less risk of colon cancer. This super fruit is so powerful that when healthy adults ate just 40 grams, the levels of antioxidants in their blood doubled! Theyve also been shown to protect the liver from damaging toxins, making them a great detox food. And the health benefit of figs dont stop there: multiple research studies have shown anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal (potently inhibiting Candida), anti-parasitic and even immune boosting properties of this amazing fruit. Figs are delicious fresh or dried but note that the fresh fruit delivers about twice the polyphenols compared to dried. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27509931 See more

Cucumber Compound is Highly Toxic to Lung Cancer Cells: Cucurbitacin B, which is found abundantly in cucumbers, was just discovered to be even more toxic to hum...an lung cancer cells (A549) than a common chemo drug (Paclitaxel)killing off 50% of the cancer cells at an even lower concentration! While this is a truly amazing result, its just the first step in turning this natural compound into a viable treatment for cancer patients. In the meantime, simply eating cucumbers regularly could offer substantial benefits. A recent study from India showed that those eating cucumbers every day had an incredible 71% reduced risk of lung cancer. And women eating this super vegetable daily also saw 34% less breast cancer. For extra protection, consider eating the cucumber with the skin on, as the skin contains the highest concentrations of cucurbitacins (this makes choosing organic all the more important). In addition, cucurbitacin content increases towards the stem end of the cucumber. Theyre delicious in salads, vegetable smoothies, soups or all alone. Or try my personal favorite: slice thinly and marinate with vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, diced onion and sea salt overnight in the fridge (fresh dill can also be added). http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26780083 See more

Kale Prevents Breast Cancer Decades Later: Eating just two servings weekly of kale (or chard) in early adulthood reduced womens risk of breast cancer later in ...life by 30% according to a just-published study on American women. Even more impressive was that kale (or chard) was the single most powerful food itemby a wide marginof any fruit or vegetable considered! This super-green is impressive for many reasons: its one of the richest dietary sources of vitamin K1, beta-carotene, potassium (the most alkalizing mineral) and the flavonoids quercetin and kaempferolall of which are proven cancer fighters according to multiple population studies. But the optimal dose of kale (and other leafy dark green vegetables) is more like one serving daily. Why? Because another recent study out of Europe found that people with the highest levels of vitamin K1 in their dietsabout the amount from one serving of kale dailyhad an incredible 46% less risk of cancer death, for all cancers combined! Other excellent sources of K1 include parsley, spinach, garden cress, collards, dandelion greens, cilantro leaves, turnip and beet greens, watercress, raddichio, brussels sprouts, arugula (rocket), cabbage, broccoli and lettuce (all types). Kale is delicious in green salads, vegetable smoothies, soups, stir fried or sautéed with garlic and olive oil. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27170029 See more

Pineapple Inhibits 65% of Skin Cancer in Vivo: In this remarkable experiment, researchers showed that bromelain, an enzyme extracted from pineapple, suppressed ...65% of skin cancer in mice when they were fed the compound. Bromelain was not only toxic to cancer cells, increasing their death rate by nearly 800%, but it actually protected normal cells from oxidative damage (as measured by decreased DNA strand breaks). Bromelain is better known as an enzyme to help with digestion, but past research has shown it is also active against many cancers, including breast cancer, stomach, mesothelioma, glioma, colon cancer and melanoma. It even has potent anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, as shown in clinical trials. In one trial, bromelain significantly reduced pain and improved quality of life after tooth extraction (dose: 250 mg, 4 X daily). Another trial showed that this pineapple compound (with other enzymes) even improved rotator cuff tendinitis. And for those who have problems getting to sleep at night, pineapple may be just the night-time snack: a past clinical trial showed eating pineapple triples the natural circulating levels of melatonin in healthy adult. And as a side benefit for alkaline diet fans, pineapple also happens to be just as alkalizing as pure lemon juice (but much less sour)! http://www.cancerletters.info//S0304-3835(09)0017/abstract See more

Rosemary Kills 77% of Stomach Cancer Cells in Vitro: For the first time ever, researchers have discovered that rosmarinic acidthe main antioxidant in the herb ...rosemarykills cancer cells by reversing the Warburg effect. That is, rosemary starves cancer cells of the sugar they need to survive. And the effect is so strong, it killed off 77% of stomach cancer cells in this study. Rosemary is a powerful anti-cancer herb which has shown great potential against all major cancers in lab studies. And the health benefits are not just theoretical. In population studies out of Europe, those eating this super-herb fresh at least once weekly appear to have 60% less risk of melanoma and 34% less risk of lung cancer. But rosemarys health benefits dont stop with fighting cancer. Clinical trials have shown rosemary to help improve kidney function in diabetics (when used as part of Canephron N), to protect skin from UV damage, and even to significantly improve memory in older adults (dose: 750 mg powdered herb daily). And men take note: topically applied rosemary essential oil actually increased hair count in men with alopecia after 6 monthsperforming just as well as Minoxidil in one clinical trial. So consider adding more of this super herb to your daily cooking, or as a warming tea. #EssentialOil http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26056431 See more

Cantaloupe is Toxic to Breast Cancer Cells: Cucurbitacin E, found abundantly in cantaloupe, was shown to kill up to 87% of aggressive triple-negative breast can...cer cells (MDA-MB-231) in vitro in this study. Intriguingly, cucurbitacin E was the most potent of all the cucurbitacins tested. But does this lab study translate to real health benefits for women? One recent study out of China suggests yes: women who ate over 40 grams daily of cantaloupe, watermelon, or papaya had 38% less risk of breast cancer (watermelon is also a good source of cucurbitacin E). Cucurbitacin E is a powerful anticancer compound, and has been shown to suppress leukemia, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer and others in lab studies. Besides being toxic to cancer cells, its also a powerful antioxidant as well as natural anti-inflammatory. And its even been shown to protect the liver against toxic compounds. Cantaloupe is delicious all by itself, in fruit smoothies, with yogurt, muesli, or oatmealor even tossed into a pasta salad. And alkaline diet followers take note: cantaloupe is so rich in potassium that it has more than double the alkalizing power of pure lemon juice! (PRAL -4.9 versus -2.2 for lemon juice). http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25072848 See more
