Are you wondering how to document this time with your family for your photo albums? I made a free assignment based workshop for non-photographers where you can dive into telling your family story during this time. https://www.nyborgteaches.com/p/21-weeks-corona-stories2

To my parent friends and non-photographer friends. I have made a free set of assignments that will drop weekly for the next couple of months, possibly longer. I... want to help my friends document this time of their lives, so they can have something to add to their family albums and look back on this unique experience with something tangible to help with the memories. It will be simple assignments you can do with any camera and anywhere, and it is completely self-paced and will remain available at least until summer. Assignments will drop every 7 days from when you sign up so you have some space to complete them. Hope you find it useful. xo See more

Are you stuck inside looking out wondering what is happening beyond the hedge? Do you feel like starting the new year with an extra push for your photographic... spirit? When you take the workshop 21 Weeks you will get exactly that. A push. I'll be your personal photography trainer, telling you to go make work, like an editor. The best part? You don't even have to be a professional photographer, this is for anyone wanting to understand storytelling in images. You will get 21 assignments, each given weekly over 21 weeks, each assignment building on the previous ones until you layer your way to a story. The goal: Make photographs you've never made before while building a story over time. This workshop is not like any other workshop out there. It is assignment based, which makes you accountable to yourself and the story, just like a photojournalist. You learn by doing. It is designed to take you from A to Z on a story through a blueprint in storytelling, and it is done in such small increments you'll only know how much you've grown once you look at your sequence in May after completing all the assignments. We will meet 3 times (or 7 if you opt fo the more intensive version), and at the end of this workshop you will have completed a story. One you can use for your portfolio or submissions. Join today, early bird pricing ends with the year, so once the fireworks start the price goes up. For more information visit https://www.nyborgteaches.com/p/21-weeks See more

When working for a business paper on a regular basis you dont get the opportunity to photograph ice-skating pre-teens much. When I was assigned a pair of ice-s...kating twins in 2010 I had to double check which newspaper I was at. Sometimes assignments can be your little carrot, a place where you can play and enjoy. My favourite part of this assignment was the editors reaction to it. She was not a photo editor, but the section editor. She was so happy with the photographs she sat on them until she could spread them out over several pages. Imagine the editorial meeting where serious people in suits discuss serious stories on serious business, and this editor pipes up, stands her ground and get us a three-page spread for the story about twirling twins. I loved her for that. She is now the editor of a magazine. Starting January 1st I will hand you an assignment. Like the ones I would get while working in the media. Only I will not give you the full assignment all at once, I have broken it down into 21 pieces that will be handed out once a week for 21 weeks. By the end you will have completed a single story, one that you puzzled together over time. I had 4 hours do complete the story above. I am giving you 5 months to do yours. I want you to understand what goes into completing a story. How you approach it, understand it, observe it, photograph it and sequence it. Your job will be to do the work while I will act like your editor. I will be there in the shadows, off stage, waiting to step in on occasion with feedback and gentle nudging. Join me in five months of storytelling. It will be about an hour a week of work, but the fruits of your labor will be new content for your portfolio and a deeper understanding of yourself as a storyteller. https://www.nyborgteaches.com/p/21-weeks

Photographs have a unique ability to transcend time while placing us into the lives of others, in places weve never been, and introduce people weve never met. Photography is a language, and like any other language it requires a lot of trial and error in order to be understood. You cant fully understand a language by sitting at a desk, you need to go out and observe it, listen to it and speak it. You need to immerse yourself in it. That is why I have created a workshop to p...rompt photographers off their behinds and into action. Into the language of their own photography, immersing themselves into a story so they can better understand not only how to tell it, but also how they can tell it in their own unique language. Through the first 21 weeks of 2020 I invite you to join me. Ive taken the concept of the single assignment and broken it up into 21 pieces.21 weeks of 21 bite-sized assignments. One single story from start to finish. Sign up today! https://www.nyborgteaches.com/p/21-weeks

I'm doing a thing this week, a free mini-workshop, where I talk about ways to find back to being a happy creative person. It's aimed at photography, but I've be...en getting a lot of feedback that it's been useful for other people too, so here it is. A video about being bored. It's a good thing. And if you're curious about the other videos I'm putting out this week you can sign up to join the free mini-workshop, link in comments. See more

I was raised on this saying (Norwegian): There is no such things as bad weather, just bad clothes. I think one of the main things I love about my childhood was how much of it was spent outside, and how many photographs there are of me jumping around getting dirty. So I take my kids outside and photograph them being there. I want them to remember what fresh air means, how important it is, how lucky we have to breathe it in. How do you spend your days?

Family photos are more than just showing off your family on your wall. They are about helping your kids with their confidence and preserving their memories. Thanks for this reminder, Margaret Albaugh

Working on relationships when you are a mother is just hard. Making parenting decisions when you are a mother is just hard. Not because you are doing it wrong, simply because it is.

Right now, in this very moment, my 4yo twins are having their very last nap in their cribs. Well, not nap exactly, it's "quiet time", which right now is more li...ke "loud time," but either way I'm at a motherhood milestone: My kids are now all officially moved up to big-kid status by sleeping in big-kid beds starting tonight. It's weird and wonderful at the same time. Possibly a few nostalgic tears will be shed this evening. While dancing. See more

Our neighbours to the south are talking about being thankful today. I'm thankful too. For these fast moving small humans who have slowed down time and sped it up all in one swoop. For the trees that surround our home where they get to run, play, grow and fall. For the old lady in the locker room after swimming lessons who yesterday told me I was a good mom. What are you thankful for?

Kids. Summer. Childhood. I want it to last forever, but also not. I think my adult brain would have a psychological meltdown. I also know for a fact that in 15 years these summers will seem too short. We only get about 18, or so I thought. A neighbour told me it's actually less than that. They often get jobs. Or don't want to climb trees with their parents anymore. They get friends. Their independence just keeps growing. And as happy as I am about their newfound abilities to dress, feed and wipe themselves, THAT made me realise their independence is an on button that doesn't have an off-switch. All I can do is photograph, take notes and hope those are enough for when I sit in my empty nest sobbing uncontrollably. Or maybe I won't. I'll get back to you on that. In 15 years.
