Wild Rose Hips / Fruit of the Wild Rose A medicine of Winter. Did you know Rose hips have more vitamin c than an orange? ... Pretty neat! I am so grateful for these vitamin c rich beauties. Especially on cold mornings like this. The winds are howling and winter is definitely making itself known. I have been adding a few rose hips to my herbal tea and it's been lovely and nourishing. They can be steeped into tea when fresh or dried. For the most vitamin c content using fresh is best but dried is good too. Rose hips can also be eaten raw, made into jams, infused in honey or baked into baked goods. Just don't forget to remove the seeds if eating them. These rose hips pictured here were picked back in November from the wild rose bush in the backyard. I've read that they are best when picked after the first frost, so in some places they are likely still ripe for the pickin'. Currently a few sit drying in my kitchen in a bowl next to clementines and apples. A bowl of vitamin c boosting foods.
