Warm up Winter with Cinnamon Cinnamon is considered a 'warming" herb which has a stimulating and dispersive effect- moving blood, heat, and molecules throughout the body. Cinnamon bark has been used for several thousand of years in traditional Eastern and Western herbalism . Traditionally used for warming in cold situations and for digestive complaints, cinnamon was also used from 500 B.C.E in India as a postpartum contraceptive (!).... A tea made with cinnamon bark is used to stimulate sluggish digestion, for head and skin infections, and to ease depression . Cinnamon is a wonderful herb to add to a formula as it acts as a sort of "hype man" for the other herbs lol. I am not sure if I have ever used that terminology in describing herbs before, but I kinda like it! One of my favourite trees on the farm had to go yesterday It became so diseased at the trunk there was barely any of it left. What was once a wee fairy home (swipe to see it 11 years ago) grew into an unsafe hole 4’ up the trunk. It did continue to grow and strengthen in other areas for self preservation (isnt nature amazing?!) but it was time. With the help of Tim’s Tree Service and some milling from a friend, we can at least utilize some pieces of the tree to make boards ..., and the rest we will be splitting for fire wood and mulch for the gardens. Now looking through this new opening as opportunity. It seems like the perfect opening into the pollinator gardens and chicken village

Happy Mid-Winter! Today marks that half way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox also known as Imbolc or St Brigid’s day. A day to invoke hope and prepare inwardly for the changes which will come- planting your visions or seeds and leaving them to germinate We love to celebrate the seasonal shifts at the farm and mid winter is usually a feast from local businesses ,... Although our busy season is slowly coming to an end , this is where we get busy as bees behind the scenes. Our gardens are being put to bed, or planted for spring, our hives are getting wrapped for winter, our herbs have been harvested, and we get to make improvements in the barn and farm. You know those jobs that get overlooked all summer because there is just too many other things to do.? Just like our beloved honeybees who work away all winter to keep their colonies alive, its the stuff you don’t see that is part of the big picture. You can’t have the sweet stuff without the hard work, dedication and commitment right?
