As a brand, Wild Side Leather aspires to be ethically conscious of the creation and consumption of leather goods as well as an educator to others on ethical considerations surrounding its products. Wild Side aims to create products that predominately utilize real natural vegetable tanned leather, thus reflecting the company’s personal belief in creating an environmentally friendly product while not compromising quality. Choosing a vegetable tanned leather means the leather i...s tanned using naturally-derived plant chemicals opposed to more commonly used chrome tanners. A chrome tanned leather is what you are more likely to see in mass produced leather goods due to its time efficiency in yielding a finished product. The dilemma in using and purchasing these products is that although they are cost effective, they have inherently negative environmental consequences. Lastly, many people argue against the use of animal-derived products and therefore many consumers are inclined towards a vegan friendly leather option. Issues with the use of petroleum-based plastic, release of fossil fuels and ultimately a product that is neither biodegradable nor durable, bring to question the actual ethicalness of these products as well. For these reasons, Wild Side Leather chooses to create goods that are being attained from preexisting sources, thus not generating a new demand for its manufacturing but in fact utilizing an already established industry.
