Restoring Fraling (Galena) Creek to Enhance Fish Habitat Last Saturday, Kootenay Conservation Program led a fantastic tour of the restoration of fish spawning and riparian habitat being done by the Columbia Wetlands Stewardship Partners and the Shuswap Indian Band. Like many streams entering the Columbia River, Galena Creek has endured decades of disturbance that have altered its ecological integrity, and this is one of many important initiatives to restore habitat conne...ctivity and functionality in our beloved Columbia Valley. We were thrilled to be able to participate and want to say an enormous thank you to KCP for organizing such a fun and informative event! #conservation #stewardship #restoration #kootenayconservationprogram #columbiariver #columbiawetlands #columbiavalley #wildsight Pat Morrow

One e-bike to rule mountain, city and commute! At least, that's what Canadian Cycling Magazine had to say about the almost $5,000 Norco Charger VLT And winning it's as easy as 1, 2, 3... Just head to wildsight.ca/events/e-bike-raffle ... (A friendly reminder: You only have until October 31 to enter! All proceeds go toward our climate change and conservation initiatives ) Photo Credit: Canadian Cycling Magazine #ebike #ebikelife #cycling #cyclinglife #norcobikes #invermere #windermere #radium #fairmont #columbiavalley #eastkootenays #britishcolumbia #sustainableliving #greentransportation #livegreen #climateadaptation #contest #raffle

We need to protect the wild spaces we still have in Canada for our own future.

CELEBRATING WORLD RIVERS DAY We’re re-posting what the ever-vigilant Meltdown in Tibet shared on sept 27. "Check out this remarkable panel from the Explorers Club. Jon Bowermaster talks about how General Electric has condemned the Hudson River to 100 years of clean-up before it can be a normal river again. Declan Walsh takes on two huge dams that are forever changing the way of life in Egypt--the Aswan Dam and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Dr Hussein journeys to the source of the Indus near Mt Kailash in Tibet. But blowing everybody out of the water (a World Rivers Day joke) is Wade Davis with his fantastic presentation on the River Magdalena in Colombia, and what it means to the people of Colombia. The best presentation about a river I have ever seen."

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BC Rivers Day with us It was a beautiful morning and there were about twelve boats on the water. BC Rivers Day corresponds to World Rivers Day, when millions of people in more than 70 countries increase public awareness and encourage the improved stewardship of rivers around the world. Finally, a special thank you to Lake Windermere Ambassadors who co-hosted the event with us! ... Pat Morrow

Here’s a chance to participate in the RDEK’s public engagement process to update the Columbia Lake Management Strategy. Please take the on-line survey by Sept 7. Go to https://engage.rdek.bc.ca/columbialake The health of our lakes and rivers are important to our community. An on-going study of painted turtles in the Columbia Valley by the Columbia Wetlands Stewardship Partners indicates that Armstrong Bay on Columbia Lake is one of the most important habitats for the turtles. The 2015-2019 Columbia Wetlands Waterbird Survey also showed that other areas in Columbia Lake are extremely important for waterbirds. It's important that we find a balance between human use and protection of vulnerable species.
