New Year, New Me? For myself, having a January birthday has always made this month extra rooted in reflection. After years of forgetting my resolutions by January 20th, in 2017 a good friend inspired me to set a yearly intention using one word and wow has it ever made a difference! 2020 was my #YearofCompassion. In January, my intent for this intention had felt needed but as the year progressed the need for this focus became bigger and more important. 2020 force...d me to have compassion for a freaking virus, for the government working to keep us safe, for strangers on the street who were nervous and wary, for my industry and peers struggling through unknown territory, for my clients who were frustrated and devastated by the unknown, for my son who was learning to be a person through the chaos, for my husband who was also unsure and nervous (and having to deal with my exploding brain ) and, in major ways, compassion for myself - for my capacity to handle all the things (sometimes terribly) Compassion was my perfect word for 2020 and I hope to remember this as 2021 unfolds. That being said it is time to pick a new intention to help guide me through the next 12 months. 2020 taught me so many things and has really inspired my new intention this go round. So, 2021 will be my #YearofNow. I want to be mindful and present as much as possible this coming year. With my business and clients, with my family - especially my sweet son - with friends and with myself. I am looking forward to focusing on the gifts of Now instead of worrying about what is to come. If 2020 taught me anything it is that we can’t control everything. I would love to know how you kick off the new year? Do you set intentions, goals or resolutions? I’m not going to lie, I’ve been a bit Grinchy this holiday season. So much about this Christmas just seems off and it’s left me struggling a bit to find the energy to do all the typical festive things. Being the first Christmas where Jude actually kind of gets what is going on, I’ve felt pretty bad for being in this funk. The other day watching a holiday movie on Netflix I was hit by the words given to the main character feeling the same feels, You are not a Macy’s Santa.... You don’t have to pretend to be jolly. - - - - - - We are all human and so what if we aren’t into celebrating like normal when let’s be frank, 2020 is a whole wack of not-normal! Around here we tend to celebrate everything, but this Christmas we are celebrating differently. This time we are celebrating the slow, quiet Christmas we aren’t use to with just our little house bubble and celebrating the health of those we love in preparation for a rager next year We are celebrating the beauty of the Kootenays, even if the no snow makes it feel like Spring We are celebrating the time to create new traditions and memories that will far outweigh the stress of this past year.
