This month, Wildwest Kidz is featuring the most recent publication from Red Barn Books. H, I' J W- is the true story of a legendary cowboy who was able to overcome what seemed like insurmountable obstacles. I invited Ayesha Bhatty Clough of Red Barn Books to tell us a bit more of the story behind the story.
Posting today about one of my most hated phrases. It starts like this, Kids these days... . It is often followed by stuff like this: . They’ve got no respect. ... They dress so weird. They are addicted to technology Don’t even get me started on their music! . This sentiment is nothing new. Kids these days... is a song adults have been singing LITERALLY since the beginning of time. . For generations, adults have waxed on-and-on about how awful the current generation is. Their judgement is measured against their own perception of themselves as kids. These perceptions are viewed through heavily-tinged rose-coloured glasses. . Next time you open your mouth to start criticizing Kids these days remember that your were once the kid that these complaints were aimed at. I promise, you were. . I think kids these days are sensitive and kind, hard-working and resilient. They are constantly adapting to survive in the world that they were born into. Isn’t that what you did? They are human beings, they make mistakes, but we all did. I have so much hope for the future. Let’s change the tone of the Kids these days... rhetoric. What are some things you LOVE about kids these days?
It takes a LOT of rodeos to become a champion. It’s hardship that make us stronger and teaches us who we want to be. It might sound crazy, but the best approach is to teach our kids to be grateful for every challenge. Overcoming adversity helps kids learn, and at the end of the day, be their own hero.

SAVING EMMA THE PIG - One of the books in this month’s WWK Box is ‘Saving Emma the Pig’. It was written by John Chester and beautifully illustrated by Jennifer Meyer. Did you know that this is a companion book to the Netflix documentary called The Biggest Little Farm? Did you know that Emma is a REAL pig? Did you know that when she arrived at the Chester farm, they changed her name to ‘Emma’ from ‘Ugly Betty’? This little five minute clip below tells a bit of the story of Emma the pig. I thought it might be a fun one to watch with your child after you have read the book!
