Wildlife sightings and cautions in CTFN traditional territory.
On the lighter side of things . . . #BearAware
Do you have a cabin in bear country? Maybe this will help keep bears out! Could be powered by a solar charger.
Working hard to keeping our community safe. Bear proof bins for Whitehorse has been a strong working point for our organization. #wildwise #bethesolution #bearaware
Living in the Yukon means you could encounter a bear any day of the year, almost anywhere in the territory. We are seeing more bears that are out and active, ev...en into the winter months. Yukoners need to manage attractants year-round. Bear season doesn’t end in the winter. Bears that are not hibernating may be more dangerous as they are still looking for food. Recently, a bison hunter reported fresh bear tracks that were actually crossing his snowmobile track from earlier in the day. While hunting, you may encounter a bear at your kill site, or taking advantage of a gut pile. Carry bear spray all year, even in the winter. Keep it warm and accessible, and know how to use it. Find more tips on how to stay bear aware while hunting in the Hunt Wisely booklet: https://yukon.ca//hunt-wisely-guidebook-hunting-safely-and Photo: this old, emaciated grizzly bear was recently destroyed by Conservation Officers after becoming a potential public safety concern. Bears that are not hibernating may be in poor health and can be more dangerous as they seek out food.
ATTN cross-country skiers: we continue to see bear activity on ski trails near Haines Junction. If you are going out skiing, snowshoeing or hiking, make sure... you have bear spray with you - even though it's winter. Keep your bear spray warm (it won't work if it's allowed to freeze) and accessible, and make sure you know how to use it. If you spot a bear that may pose a risk to public safety, you can report it to the TIPP line 24/7, toll free 1-800-661-0525. If you spot a bear within Kluane National Park, you can also report it to Parks Canada at 1-877-852-3100. Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club St. Elias Ski Club

These WildSafeBC tips are important in the Yukon too as bear can be active this time of the year and year-round. #Wildwise #Yukon #HalloweenSafety
