Elect Wilfred Wysote for Council 26.01.2021

G’we m’st wen/ Hello everyone, As I mentioned the other day in my previous post, I announced that I will be speaking over the next few days about things that I wish to see happen here on our traditional, unceded, never surrendered territory of Listuguj! Our leaders have accomplished so much, I have also contributed so many years of my life into many projects that you see here in our community today, such as the LMDC, housing and housing repairs, forestry, pow wow committee, a...Continue reading

Elect Wilfred Wysote for Council 09.01.2021

Dear Listugujewaq, to those of you don’t know me my name is Wilfred Wysote also known as Moley. I am the oldest son of Nellie Wysote Larocque and the late Grand Chief William Jack (Je’gopsn) Wysote. You will see me posting about issues that I hope to address on my page over the next few days. If you have any questions feel free to comment on my shared post and I will address them to the best of my ability. The reason I strive to lead within our community in short is, I live...d it most of my life. I lived with a leader throughout my entire childhood and youth where I experienced first -hand issues that were important to the Mi’gmaq nation. My father was a part of the land claim of the unceded territory within our community of what is now called the Flat, he was a part of that French settlement that is now Pacific Drive and what now belongs to our people. I mention my father because he was a huge influence in my political career, he taught me the importance of unity, and working together undivided to succeed in moving our community forward. Like my father, I lead from the heart because that is the way of our people, to lead with kindness and to lead with patience. I share this vision with you, a vision my father and I shared for our community, which was to have our own high school here within our community. It is a vision that is a priority to me, ensuring our children’s education is never tampered with again. My father wore a lot of moccasins and to be honest I do fit a few. My motivation comes from the needs of our own people. I see a foundation that has been set for the new and the experienced councillors to work together, an opportunity to learn from one another. Let’s have a chief and council that work together alongside our spiritual tribal government. With a leadership that is united, and one that includes the voices and concerns of its people, you create stronger leadership. I was able to be a seat at the table that implemented the Marshall decision here in our community, one of the largest settlements given was to our community of Listuguj, and that is something I am incredibly proud to of been a part of. Listuguj proved that great things can happen when we work together.
