Some more pics from the kintec golf tournament. Had a great time with my group..we definitely had the most fun @kintecfootwear #chiropractic #chiropractor #sportschiro #sportschiropractor #langley #langleychiropractor #portcoquitlam #portcoquitlamchiropractor #loveyourjob @ Northview Golf & Country Club
Before and after a treatment. Did I manipulate/adjust him? NO.. Did I use soft tissue or fascial stretching? NO If you are scared of the chiropractor or being adjusted thats fine..I have many other techniques to treat you. This patient has been in chronic pain for years after multiple car accidents. This is just his second visit and in 15 minutes you can see the changes in muscle tone and posture. Lots of "wows" following when he saw the picture as well as moved around. Of... course he has homework #langley #langleychiropractor #portcoquitlam #chiropractor #chiropractic #posturalrestorationinstitute #pri #langleyeventscentre #langleycity #movement #breath #sportschiro #sportschiropractor #nomedication @ Langley Events Centre
Spending this weekend putting in some time and energy to learn more ways to help each and every one of you. This course had already begun to blow my mind and reemphasize my support for positioning and mobility of the human body. This course offers manual techniques that can achieve better and longer lasting results WITHOUT a crack/adjustment. If you are nervous or scared about that..there IS a better way! Tune in soon for some upcoming announcements! Here I am demonstrating the motions of the scapula. Motor dysfunction or poor control is often the case in people who sit at desks all day or who have spent a lot of the time working on their front beach body and forgotten their back (hint your back is more than your Lats and shrugging!) The scapular serves as a major attachment point and stabilizer for the shoulder. It connects the arm to the rib cage in the back. Poor motion here gets transmitted to the T spine or to the GH... (glenohumeral) joint. Do you really want this to be dysfunctional when moving/throwing a weighted object? Part 2 will demonstrate a basic movement pattern to learn to assess yourself as well as a good warm up for the scapula! Remember: Maximize Movement, Optimize Health! Here are some common compensations for the shoulder. If you fit one of these categories then you have a dysfunctional shoulder! This is geared to the throwers but is 100% applicable to overhead lifters and squatters. Come see me to get this fixed and prevent shoulder issues down the road! Here I am demonstration the shoulder movements...yes I forgot Abduction (think jumping jack or snow angel). I am gearing these future posts for the throwers in the group so pay attention if you are chomping at the bit for season to start! We are going to cover normal ROM, compensations, and some basic mobility drills to help prevent injuries! A great quick read about some typical myths about back pain and some tips to work on preventing. A big part of my practice is to educate the patient on why their back hurts and give them some simple strategies in their daily life that can help ease it. This article is from "the spine guru" Dr. Stuart McGill and has some great, simple, effective, and easy strategies to help combat your discomfort! Any questions or if these strategies arent quite doing the trick, then a visit... to a trained back specialist (like myself) can be very beneficial! https://www.theptdc.com/2017/04/back-pain-myths/
Dr. Will is in the office tomorrow for regular hours (12-630pm). If the weekend got the better of you celebrating this great country, there are still some openings available to get you back having a great summer! Langley Sports Medicine Clinic https://i.imgflip.com/1rvyl3.jpg
This is a great short video that helps answer a few questions and concerns you may have with chiropractic care. I have based my practice on a very similar model of care for you, my patients, as I believe it to lead to the best outcomes for you.
Rocktape is a very useful tool that provides relief and body awareness between treatments. Check back soon for an announcement about using Rocktape in April!
So much of new age "disease" is caused by poor eating habits. Nutrition is a complex and confusing subject..what is a super food this week is the next killer a month later... If you are struggling changing your eating habits take it 1 step at a time..start with 1 particular meal in the week..you WILL NOT be an overnight success in nutrition...but take every success in stride with your "failures" This is a simple thing to start immediately... cutting sugar intake down. Everything in moderation!

I am excited to announce that I am now RockTape Blades Certified. This technique adds a whole new dimension to your treatments. Many of you are familiar with Graston Technique which focuses on muscle work, Blades treatment focuses on the overlying and underlying fascia system of the body. The research this article based on shows that comfort is the most important. That being said, during running, forces of 3-10x your body weight go through the foot and up as far as your skull! Making sure that all the joints are moving properly and functioning through your stride will help keep you on the road/trails and reach your race goals. Chiropractors are trained in extremity biomechanics and joint treatment. Stop by for an analysis and treatment and run out!
Recognize those hands around 45sec? .... Me neither! But this is a great motivational video that if you put in the hard work anything is possible...and dont forget that you may stumble or hit road blocks on the way and its ok to lean on others for help and guidance! It is great to see chiropractors breaking through barriers and getting into the main stream media (if even for 0.8 seconds) https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=cM1z4e8GD74
Enjoying some light reading on this holiday. Always trying to improve the care I can give to patients. Also my bracket (in the background) still looks half decent! Have a safe and happy long weekend surrounded by friends and family! Advance Health and Wellness Centre Langley Sports Medicine Clinic
Life style is key! You can accomplish anything you set your mind to! Sure there are going to be bumps along the road and you may. Red some help from others, but stick with it!!
A great read from a spine surgeon! Make sure to consider the least invasive options first!
With all that media storm that has not only recently happened but anytime a stroke gets "pinned" on a chiropractor, I wanted to put together a brief post for the public. a recent article in Manual Therapy covered the cause of dissections in vertebral and carotid arteries; and cited research stating: "Animal studies using dogs and pigs, whose cervical arterial structure is similar to humans...researchers were unable to produce sufficient force to cause any arterial damage usi...ng manipulative thrusts"; "cadaver studies, far greater forces than those capable of being produced by manipulation were required to cause damage to arterial wall." http://www.manualtherapyjournal.com//S1356-689X(1/abstract a commentary published in the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association in 2013 stated that neck manipulation exerts roughly half or less of the strain that occurs to the arteries during shoulder checking while driving. .http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov//PMC3845/pdf/jcca_57_4_276.pdf BOTH articles state that the biggest factor in patient safety was the history and dialogue between the patient and chiropractor. My condolences to the families and those affected.
This is a great mobility drill. If you are new to mobility training then break down this drill into the individual components before trying to integrate them together.

I had the opportunity to attend a lecture on patellofemoral syndrome by Dr. Bill Mackie last week, a specialist in knee pain who works with high level athletes. With running and marathon season upon us, I want to shed some light on the most commonly diagnosed knee condition. Running increases the forces through your joints by 7x! That adds a lot of extra stress to the muscles, ligaments, and joints. Patellofemoral pain (used to be known as patellar tracking issues) is pain in the anterior knee (behind the knee cap) and is usually caused by overuse. Runners quickly go to the IT band or the glute as the cause of their pain, and often can forget about the knee joint. If you are experiencing any knee pain while running then stop by the office!
For my gym rats... A study shows that the optimum bench press angle for maximum muscle recruitment is between 30-45 degrees incline. The traditional bench press can cause a lot of shoulder issues because it increases the stresses on the shoulder as your elbows drop below the bench. This causes the head of the humerus to translate forward which puts strain on the rotator cuff muscles. If you like the flat bench press, try to stop your elbows at the level of your body. http://www.ctvnews.ca//study-yields-optimal-bench-press-an

Everyone is so quick to turn to pain killers when first in pain. Here is a short informative video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mcuIc5O-DE&feature=youtu.be) about how they work. While I have no problem with their use short term, long term use can cause many additional problems such as: leaky gut, gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, joint pain°eneration, and kidney disorders among others. There are natural alternatives such as TUMERIC & GINGER which are natural COX 2 inhibitors and BOSWELLIA creme is a LOX inhibitor.
This is an essential movement pattern to learn to spare your back and prevent injury. The hip-hinge involves a stable spine and movement through the hips. This video demonstrates how it can be integrated into daily life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZj8ViLXbpM
