The struggle is real folks...
We really want to thank all of our partners and clients for a great field season in 2019. I feel we contributed a lot to our environment and look forward to continuing this work into 2020 and beyond. Some data 'stories' have been told and we look forward to completing the rest of our analysis and reporting over the coming months. Thanks everyone!
I think it is important to convey information accurately. In the case of the story related to Atlantic salmon and the Oromocto River, actual bycatch of smolts in the commercial fishery was 8 caught of the 14 that made it to the receiver located immediately upstream of the trap nets. Of the 6 that passed the fishery successfully, 3 did it on the weekend when they were not fishing. Bottom line: I have been working on this project since 2016 gathering electrofishing data on ...Atlantic salmon densities in the tributaries of the Oromocto River and this is the second year of this acoustic study. Please contact my office for further details as I am still in the field the rest of this week. I AM glad this story is being told as the 'Gaspereau' (collectively Blueback herring and Alewife) are a keystone species for the aquatic ecosystems of the East Coast and more recognition of their contributions to freshwater productivity and removal of phosphorus from lentic systems by juveniles needs to be recognized. The best way to avoid summer heat is by getting involved in so many water-centric projects. Well, some of these pictures are from the spring... Never thought I would be glad to be back in the office for a few days, or sharing on Facebook for that matter . Many more exciting projects to come, data to collect and analyze, and people to meet. Looking Forward!
A boat a day keeps the doctor away.
Best one I have seen today...
And then, back to the St. John River- not a bad office either...
Meeting old acquaintances, making new friends, and walking new rivers from Northwest River to Forteau Labrador in the company of the Nunatukavut Community Council. Such an amazing trip in an amazing part of our country.
I am very happy and proud to be able to continue to work for clients and have partners who are focused on results and collaborations. Thanks Everyone!
One, done, and off to the next one. I am always so impressed by the number of people and organizations with so much concern for the rivers of New Brunswick.
Sharing some photos from previous projects I have worked on. Whew, a lot of late nights and early mornings looking back...
Taking a break from data entry to share some photos- how many times have you driven over these small streams without giving them a second look? It is these small streams that will enable our cold water species such as Atlantic salmon and Brook charr survive these hot, dry summers. Salmon and trout were found in each of these with only a small section sampled and very little effort. Please keep these streams intact.
Finished the field certification, can now collect samples for taxonomy for the CABIN program. Now the rest of the course to be certified in all aspects.
Field work is better with dogs, they never look at me like I'm lost...
