Notice from GTHL Sept 1. The Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) has announced their return to play Game Plan that outlines timelines, protocols, and procedures for the 2020-21 season. Made in alignment with Hockey Canada’s Safety Guidelines and the Ontario government’s COVID-19 Return to Sport Guidelines, the GTHL’s Game Plan framework was formulated with expert advice leading pediatric infectious disease specialists at a major Canadian hospital as well as Toronto Public H...ealth. The framework aims to give GTHL players the opportunity to get back on the ice in a safe, fun, and secure environment while minimizing the risk of infection. The Game Plan provides players, parents, coaches, and GTHL stakeholders with insight into what the 2020-21 GTHL could look like, accompanied by potential timelines. Players can start to register for hockey beginning September 7, 2020 through a paper team selection process. No in-person tryouts will be held this season. Teams can take to the ice beginning October 7, 2020 (subject to change) for small scrimmages and team training. It is expected the earliest players will resume regular League competition is December 1, 2020. Every GTHL team will be required to appoint a Team Safety Rep who will undergo training and oversee COVID-19 screening procedures for each participant prior to partaking in team activities. Guidelines and checklists for COVID-19 screening procedures are included in the Game Plan. The GTHL will not be collecting Team Entry Fees or Player Registration Fees until regular play resumes within the Overtime portion of the framework. The only fee currently being collected by the GTHL will be $40.11 per participant, of which, $8.50 is retained by the GTHL. The remaining amount goes towards the Hockey Canada Assessment and Insurance and OHF Assessments. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), as well as resources for returning to the ice, can be found on the GTHL’s Return to Hockey page which will be updated frequently. The Game Plan is subject to change as the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve in the province. Notice from GTHL Saturday Aug15th. The Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) will release a comprehensive Return to Play framework on August 31, 2020 outlining what hockey will look like this season. The safety of GTHL players is of the utmost importance and the framework will include measures to keep all participants safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19. You may still register HL interest through [email protected]... The first step of this plan will be the opening of competitive stream player registration for the 2020-21 year on September 7, 2020. For many of our organizations, hockey school and house league registration opened in the Spring and they will continue to accept registrants. The Plan includes an anticipated return to on-ice activity in modified form after October 7, 2020, with a staged expansion as public health guidelines permit. No formal in-person on or off the ice tryouts will be taking place. Tryouts will be conducted through a paper selection process by our clubs and we will also offer a variety of flexible registration options. On and off ice training will commence in groups of no more than 20 with physical distancing measures in place. The main focus as we return to the ice initially will be on individual skill development but on-ice activity can include traditional skill development as well as scrimmages of 3 on 3 or 4 on 4. As the public health situation develops, it may allow for more traditional forms of hockey to resume. Further details on subsequent phases and what activity will be permitted in later phases will be included in the August 30, 2020 Return to Play Framework. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of players, Clubs, parents, coaches, and other GTHL stakeholders at this time. We are excited and eager to welcome you back to the ice. Please visit Return to Hockey on the GTHL web site at https://www.gthlcanada.com/return-to-hockey-covid-updates/ page for a list of frequently asked questions and all the latest information on returning to the ice and on August 30, 2020.

Celebrating Awards today Congratulations to Fraser Deacon our President winner of the George Chamandy Memorial Trophy Winner: Fraser Deacon (Willowdale Blackhawks)... Established in 1953, the George Chamandy Memorial Trophy was developed to recognize an individual’s long-standing commitment to hockey in the Greater Toronto Area. George Chamandy was a supporter of the Toronto Hockey League (now the GTHL) in the 1940s. The THL Board of Directors named this award in his memory after his passing in 1952. The George Chamandy Memorial Trophy is presented to the individual (non-GTHL Executive) who, in the opinion of the GTHL Board of Directors, has contributed a supreme effort to the promotion and fostering of minor hockey in Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan and/or Markham. This trophy is the highest award presented to any individual by the GTHL. Congratulations too to all the other winners, with a special mention to one of our regular HL Referees, Corey Shaffer who won the John Gardner Special Recognition Award Winner: Corey Shaffer (Goulding Park House League)

It's time! Pre-Registration for all ages in HOUSE LEAGUE is open from June 1st. There is NO FEE to pre-register. Just send an email to [email protected] with your child's name and date of birth and where you played in 2019-20 if at all. We will pre-register your child now to play at Willowdale when the time comes and your spot will be guaranteed, as will early-bird pricing at $25 off until end of August. For now no money is due.... While we have no clue yet what our season will look like for 2020-2021, we are working with all the hockey and medical authorities toward a successful House League season. Flexible planning is key! Fees will not increase. FULL season is Tyke ($345), Minor Novice ($445); Novice, Atom and PW ($540) and Monday ($475) - these fees will be adjusted to reflect any/all reductions from a full 23 week season. Returning 2019 players will receive a credit of $40 for the lost last few events of the 2019 season. Referral credits from 2019 will be placed on your account as well. As always, you may pre-register your child with just one hockey club.
