Our Grade 3s recently participated in virtual and very fun project called The Big Bad Blow Dryer Challenge. This project was designed to develop their creative and critical thinking skills, as well as to have fun with their Fairy Tale unit and building theme. Following the criteria, they were to construct a house and then test their structure against the fierce winds of the Big Bad Blow Dryer or in some cases the Big Bad Leaf Blower! Our most adorable Preschool and Pre-K classes lead by Ms. Sarah and Ms. Becca’ joined together today to celebrate the start of Black History Month. The teachers taught the children that even if we look different on the outside, we are all the same on the inside! They used a brown egg and a white egg to test what the insides look like. And just like people, we might look different on the outside but are the same on the inside. The children also learned that these differenc...es are what make each of them unique and special, and it is important to treat everyone equally. Finally they ended off the session with a story and lesson about Martin Luther King Jr. They proceeded to ask our wise preschoolers the question how would they feel if they were treated different because of how they looked? Our Grade 1’s participated in a fun project last week where they learned the valuable truth that I am unique, I am creative and I am worthy! Let me tell you the story of the DOT. The Dot. In this story a little girl named Vashti feels frustrated in art class because she thinks she can’t draw . Her teacher encourages her to make a mark on the paper and this begins her journey into discovering that you can make beautiful art with just DOTS. But it also teaches tha...t you can do anything that you set your mind to doing. I caught a glimpse into our grade 5s music class today. Mrs. Priebe was hard at work with our students helping them prepare for their turn at student lead Chapel. Once a month our students take the lead by organizing and running the entire chapel experience for the whole school. It is such an incredible experience for them as they have the chance to practice singing, playing instruments , public speaking, and facilitating skills all in front of a larger audience. Or in the...se COVID days in front of their learning group and broadcasted live for the rest of the school to watch safely from their classroom.
