What is Aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these "essential" oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. A form of alternative medicine, aromatherapy is g...aining momentum. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function. There are a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties.

Why are plant medicines not used more frequently in western medicine? Simply follow the money... you can't patent a plant. Imagine what would happen if our greatest minds were encouraged to study the naturally occurring miracles growing from the earth.

Inhalers are a fabulous way to use essential oils. My favourite ways to use them are: -When dealing with nasal congestion with oils that support respiratory function. -For people who experience anxiety and/or depression with calming oils... -For children with separation anxiety to carry with them with supportive oils -For children to use independently when needing calming and grounding -For people who want to use essential oils in places with strict scent free policies @windingpatharomatherapy

We are so bombarded with negativity these days it seems. It requires a conscious effort to have boundaries when it comes to what we allow to enter our space. Sometimes we need to clear our space and let go of people or things that pull us into a negative energy space so that we can live in a place of love and allow our vibrational energy to raise.

Do you have a teething child in your home? These are my go to oils for comforting teething little ones. Just remember to dilute all essential oils well. For infants 1-2 drops per TBSP is ideal and then rub along the jaw line for teething discomfort.

Lemon essential oil can help with morning sickness. A 2014 controlled, double blind randomized clinical trial aimed to determine the effect of inhaled Lemon e...ssential oil on nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. 100 pregnant women (6-16 weeks) with moderate nausea and vomiting were divided into two equal groups. The intervention group placed two drops of distilled Lemon oil (diluted in almond oil) on a cotton ball and inhaled when they felt nauseous. The control group inhaled almond oil only. Participants completed a PUQE-24 (Pregnancy Unique Quantification of Emesis and Nausea) questionnaire every day for 4 days. The severity and frequency of nausea and vomiting decreased in both groups, however the difference was much more significant in the Lemon group. The researchers concluded that inhaled lemon essential oil can be effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. Traditionally, Peppermint and Ginger are recommended for nausea, and can be effective for post-operative nausea. However, one small study on inhaled peppermint showed no significant effect on nausea during pregnancy compared with saline control. Lemon essential oil therefore offers an interesting alternative, without resorting to anti-emetic drugs. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4005434/ For more, go to www.tisserandinstitute.org/infographics

T"his study presented evidence that aromatherapy massage could significantly decrease stress and enhance immune function in pregnant women. The findings can guide clinicians or midwives in providing aromatherapy massage to women throughout the pregnancy."

New research: Lavender aroma promotes interpersonal trust! A 2015 controlled study of 90 healthy young adults investigated whether trust can be influenced by an... environmental fragrance. The hypothesis was that a calming scent will induce a more inclusive state of mind, and therefore increase the level of trust. The participants performed The Trust Game, in which trust is measured by the amount of money a person is willing to transfer to the other person. (more about The Trust Game here: https://en.wikibooks.org//Bestiary_of_Behaviora/Trust_Game) The experiment took place in a space where either Lavender oil or Peppermint oil was diffused, and the control group was placed in an unscented environment. Compared to Peppermint and control (no aroma), being exposed to Lavender aroma increased interpersonal trust by 22%. Peppermint did not decrease the level of trust, compared to the control group. So the next time you need to negotiate a loan, you may want to use Lavender as your personal fragrance. Or perhaps a different calming essential oil. However, make sure the fragrance is not too strong, as other research suggests overpowering scents can have the opposite effect in interview situations. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4290497/

"When children with ADHD inhaled vetiver essential oil three times a day for 30 days they had improved brain wave patterns and behavior and did better in school" One of my favourite oils was used in this study. Vetiver is an amazing oil for calming and promoting relaxation. It has a lovely grassy aroma and is superb to use at night to support sleep.
