Lent is that time of year where Christians fast and follow Jesus into the wilderness for 40 days leading up to Holy Week. Traditionally, folks give up something for Lent as an echo of Jesus' fasting for 40 days in the wilderness....Continue reading

Post-Halloween, what could monsters teach us about ourselves? We will wrestle with the spiritual necessity of transformation from inhumanity to Jesus' humanity, and why Autumn helps us make sense of it all. Greetings Windsor Mennonite Fellowship! As a Pastor, there are times when I have been working on a message and feel a great blockage in my spirit. As you already know, I usually do not lack the words or thoughts to share - and often over-share; but this week is one of those exceptions! I feel/sense that blockage within me, like a profound and nameless holy discontent. I've learned to trust this sensation and sit with the discomfort, instead of fearing it or resisting it's req...uest for attention. I've learned that the Spirit sometimes speaks to us and guides us by unsettling the waters of comfort, privilege, and ease. As I prayed and reflected, very literally, my mind was drawn to a specific example of conflict, systemic racism, and violence against the Mi'kmaw people, an Indigenous fishing community in Nova Scotia, happening right now. The news of this injustice has deeply troubled my soul. If you are unfamiliar with the story, here is one of the many reports on the situation. https://www.cbc.ca//lobster-facility-nova-scotia-fire-1.57 This has prompted me to give my platform away for this weekend, and share it with Indigenous voices. Below are two videos of Indigenous teachers. There are so many voices we need to hear, but I settled on these two teachers: Richard Twiss and Kaitlin B Curtis. They share with us messages of hope (and challenge) that invite the Church into a different story, rather than a harmful and ongoing colonial legacy. These are people that fully embrace their Indigenous identities and also follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Both teachers live into a profound tension we all need to learn from and follow. Bring your questions and thoughts on the messages to our Zoom gathering tomorrow (I will send a link in the morning). https://youtu.be/ZRtATZkpAJI Richard Twiss, CCDA, September 26 2012 Richard Twiss is a member of the Sicangu Lakota Oyate from the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. https://youtu.be/4qBH9aNeSjo Sermon by Kaitlin Curtice (April 6-7, 2018). An enrolled citizen of the Potawatomi Citizen Band Nation See you tomorrow morning at 11 am. In Jesus, Pastor Rielly

Hi WMF, Below is the Zoom invite to join us for Sunday's online video gathering. I will be posting Sunday's message as soon as it is finished. Remember to change your clocks! The contentious Fall time-change is upon us once again (1 hour back). Our online service begins at 11:00 am. ... On this All Hallows' Eve, we are invited to reflect on our spiritual relatives and the faithful departed- 'All' those have walked the path of Jesus ahead of us. 'Hallowed' is an old word for 'Holy'. You may recall traditional renditions of the Lord's Prayer where Jesus instructs us to pray, "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name." As we learned from Nate Hope last Sunday, holiness for us humans means a journey to be 'whole' like God is whole, in contrast to all that tries to keep us apart and in pieces. All Hallows' Eve remembers and learns from those who have gone before us on this wholeness journey. Who are your spiritual relatives, those holy lives who nurtured your faith? Who were the people that inspired you, taught you, and showed you how to walk with Jesus? Maybe they were a grandparent or mentor? Or maybe they were an author or historic figure? I encourage you to come to our virtual gathering tomorrow with stories of your spiritual relatives and saints - that we may learn from them together in our quest to become whole in God. See you tomorrow! - Pastor Rielly Topic: WMF Sunday Virtual Gathering Time: Nov 1, 2020 11:00 AM America/Toronto Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83622622670 Meeting ID: 836 2262 2670 Passcode: 131053

This weekend, we have the special privilege of learning from Rev. Dr. Katie Cannon. Sadly, she died in 2018, but her legacy lives on through her many accomplishments and academic career. Dr. Cannon was the first Black woman to be ordained in the United Presbyterian Church. She also founded an entire field of study called Womanist Theology, which explores the intersections between Feminism, Racial Identities, and Black theology. In parallel with our series on Re-learning Jes...us: The Discipleship Path, this Sunday (Sept 6th), we will be discussing a teaching video from The Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon titled, "Crossing Over to the Other Side" The Scripture Passage is from Mark 4:35-41 https://youtu.be/cURCzKWJmRc If you would like to read more about Dr. Katie Cannon, here is a tribute, in her NYTimes obituary. https://www.nytimes.com//katie-cannon-68-dies-lifted-black Nate Hope will be posting/sending a Zoom link invite to our online worship gathering Sunday morning.
