February is Heart Month, dedicated to taking care of our hearts and brains and promoting healthy behaviours because 80 per cent of premature heart disease and stroke is preventable with healthy choices. This is particularly relevant right now, as many Ontarians are now confined to their homes, resulting in increased stress, decrease in physical activity and potentially leading to unhealthy eating or a reduction in access to healthy foods and increased use of tobacco and nico...tine. In Windsor-Essex, approximately 800 patients are admitted to acute care due to a stroke every year. #Heartmonth #HeartandStrokeBeatAsOne @heartandstroke https://www.wrh.on.ca/newsroom?newsid=2793

Many residents in Windsor and Essex County may not recognize the name, but Dr. Richard Johnson is a local pioneer in the medical world. A plaque is up at the entrance to the Regional Renal Program at Windsor Regional Hospital located next to the Ouellette Campus in the Bell building, to honour the program’s founder Dr. Richard Johnson. We are happy for this recognition and remembrance of his accomplishments, says Alan Johnson, Dr. Johnson’s son.... In December 1964, Dr. Johnson started the Chronic Renal Dialysis Program at the former Grace Hospital, which was a first of its kind in Canada. https://www.wrh.on.ca/newsroom?newsid=2792

It sure hasn’t been easy in the last 12 months to stay active! Between work stress, stress eating, and fatigue, and gyms being closed most of the time and now the cold weather it hasn’t been easy for many of us to try to get fit, let alone stay fit! We are all feeling the effects of this pandemic. That's why we want you to get up, get moving, and challenge yourself and others to move for 200 minutes by March 14th by joining the WRH team for the United Way’s iMove event! You... can join our Healthcare Heroes team. You can also invite friends outside of WRH, and family members to participate too, including kids! The cost to register is $20 for adults and $5 for children. You can register and participate, or instead just donate to a WRH team member to support your colleagues. All proceeds will fund youth mental health programs in our community. https://www.wrh.on.ca/newsroom?newsid=2797

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) and Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) are coordinating efforts to plan the rollout of initial, limited vaccinations for the COVID-19 virus starting next week. The plan will see a limited supply of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines. Each individual would require two doses of the vaccine. We cannot yet confirm specific numbers of doses we expect to receive and the exact date for initial vaccinations is not confirmed at this time. The first ...group the Ontario government is focusing on is employees who work at Long Term Care/Retirement Homes (LTC/RH) (not in outbreak) in Grey - Lockdown/Red - Control regions in the province, like Windsor and Essex County. The individual LTC/RH employees will be independently scheduled for inoculation. For more information, please click the link below: https://www.wrh.on.ca/newsroom?newsid=2734
