Winnipeg Labour Council 17.11.2020

Winnipeg Labour Council adopted this motion on Tuesday night which was brought forward by David Camfield: (please see comment section for additional information) Winnipeg Labour Council calls on the provincial government to abandon its failed COVID-19 pandemic strategy and adopt a strategy of suppression and mitigation. This must be accompanied by extensive social supports to reduce the impact of an effective lockdown on workers required to work outside the home, low-incom...e people, and other persons who suffer during a lockdown. Winnipeg Labour Council will work with other organizations to pressure the provincial government to adopt such a strategy. See more

At this point in time, we have seen no indication from the employer that they’re willing to even sit down to have any further discussions on this, said Bea Bruske, secretary-treasurer for UCFW Local 832.

This year the MFL Women's Committee will be marking the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women a little differently, with a Virtual Me...morial on Friday, December 4 at Noon. We are pleased to host Sherri Rollins as our special guest speaker. She is the City Councillor for Fort-Rouge, East Fort Garry in Winnipeg. She also serves on the City's Executive Policy Committee as Chair of Protection, Community Services and Parks. Her presentation will focus on what cities can do to make public spaces safer for women and girls. We ask that you register in advance for this free memorial event at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_oFEKS21_Twqcz_lW135owA In lieu of a memorial lunch, this year the MFL Women’s Committee is selling limited edition t-shirts to raise funds for Manitoba women’s shelters. Those who already placed pre-orders will be receiving calls about their shirts shortly. If you didn’t place a pre-order but would still like to purchase a shirt, please contact our office next week: 204-947-1400 / [email protected].
