Anxiety... there are about 40 million people who suffer from it, but there isn’t a whole lot of talk about what causes it. Anxiety can be due to... *gut infections *chronic illness... *chronic inflammation *gut dysbiosis *life And of course... HORMONES! Low progesterone, high cortisol, hyper and hypothyroid, as well as estrogen changes can lead to anxiety. Because us gals cycle our hormones it can be hard to pin point the cause. BUT what I’m saying is... there is a cause of your anxiety. Don’t tell yourself it’s ‘normal’. Find the CAUSE and work to fix it!! There is hope! See more

Winnipeg Nutrition 18.08.2020

CHEW. CHEW. CHEW. No, seriously... your food should be nearly like *paste* before your swallow it. Why? Most of us are in such a hurry to eat that we swallow before chewing our food enough that we can actually digest it.... This can lead to bloating, heartburn, acid reflux and constipation. Digestion starts in your mouth. Slow down and CHEW.

Inside your gut are about 100 trillion live microorganisms. Yeast and fungus are just a few of them. And in balanced amounts, they are beneficial! But if they begin to overgrow, they will cause issues. 7 most common signs of poor gut health:... 1. food intolerances 2. gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea and heartburn (most commonly diagnosed as IBS, IDB, leaky gut...) 3. weight gain 4. brain fog 5. fatigue 6. skin irritation 7. anxiety and/or depression Just to name a few... If you suspect you have an overgrowth of fungus and yeast there are a few things you can do! First, remove sugar, dairy and processed foods. Second, check out some probiotics. They can help restore balance. Third, if you’ve been dealing with these symptoms for a while and dietary changes aren’t helping, consider running a GI test to assess the specific makeup of your microbiome. This info can help tailor a protocol specific to YOU and your gut!

In endometriosis & autoimmune conditions, it is strongly recommended to avoid dairy products. They can be inflammatory for a number of different reasons. Particularly because of the dairy protein that has a high chance of triggering the immune system to react and create inflammation. Someone with a lactose intolerance lacks the enzyme in their intestines to break down the sugar lactose that is found in dairy products. As a results they can end up experiencing gas, diarrhea, ...etc when they consume lactose. Those lactose-free products are meant for those who cannot breakdown the enzyme lactose. Lactose-free products still contain dairy proteins, and can still trigger the immune system. So for those with autoimmune or endometriosis, all dairy should be avoided. Dairy-free means no dairy at all. Meaning no dairy protein. 'But Sara, I eat dairy and feel fine' is often what I hear. But the thing to remember with autoimmune, is we often don't 'feel' the immune response the typical way. Pay attention to your moods, skin, quality of sleep, energy after eating dairy. Check your antibody levels in blood on dairy, then remove it for 30 days and check again. For optimal health, remember dairy-free and lactose-free are different.

You’ve heard of ‘fight or flight’ - your body’s programmed response to stress?! Some examples: catching your child before they fall narrowly avoiding a car crash... saving a pet from running into the street In order for us to think + move fast, our body must produce adrenalin/epinephrine, then release blood sugar and cortisol to give us a burst of energy. This is literally life-saving! The problem is... our body can start to react to any stress like this, not just a critical situation. When that happens, we live in a perpetual state of stress. This causes fatigue, insomnia, low immunity, mood swings, irregular cycles, intense sugar/carb cravings. People in this state are more likely to have high blood pressure, anxiety and depression. It is vital to stop this cycle. How do you do that? Rest. Improve digestion. Increase hydration. Focus on mindset. Test adrenal function and supplement specifically.

How can you start lowering inflammation? *get to bed by 10 or 10:30pm *swap out conventional home and personal products for natural, chemical free alternatives *have your gut assessed by your favourite Nutritionist *remove dairy, gluten, soy, sugar and corn from your daily diet
