Winnipeg VegFest 27.01.2021

FRIENDS NOT FOOD Listen everyone, we know your bank accounts and bellies are taking a beating this week and the Veg Fest Team is beyond thrilled by the enthusiasm of the vegan community! But this is about more than just incredible food. Many of us in this amazing vegan community, choose this path because of our compassion for animals. Yet there has to be someone to take care of the animals saved.... Our close to 40 participating restaurants have chipped in and now it’s your turn. We ask that you take a moment and head to our website (link in bio) and donate to The Good Place: Farm Rescue & Sanctuary. A few dollars or more than a few, anything is appreciated. The Good Place: Farm Rescue & Sanctuary is located 25 minutes east of Winnipeg in the community of Ste. Genevieve, MB. Here you will find a safe haven for all species, a place where like minded people gather with a common goal of making the world a more compassionate place. Jen began saving horses in 2017, and realized the hypocrisy in saving one species while ignoring the barbaric treatment of others. As her doors began to open to other species, so did her heart. Falling in love with a dairy bi-product, finding friendship in feathery throwaways and gaining the trust of terrified eyes hiding behind the wool, forever changed her perspective and her view on the world. It became her mission to advocate against the mistreatment of ALL farmed animals. You can find more about Jen and The Good Place on our website. In the meantime, pictured are Franklin the Steer, Chuck the Goose and the other beautiful animals. Photos by the talented Kristin Sawatzky. We thank you for your generous support of Winnipeg Veg Fest’s first annual Le Vegan Week!

Not only will dogs be returning to the White House after four years, this adorable German Shepherd, whose name is Major, will be the first rescue dog to live there. This greatly raises the profile of the millions of shelter animals who badly need good homes. Adopt, don't shop! Read Major's story here: https://time.com/5458140/joe-biden-adopts-rescue-dog/

It's official. He's out. GOOD RIDDANCE TO THIS MAN. He's been nothing but a nightmare for animals and the planet. He has: * shredded protections for wildlife and endangered species * reversed protections for marine animals * overturned hunting bans in Alaskan wildlife refuges... * loosened restrictions on commercial fishing * increased the number of endangered marine mammals and sea turtles that can be unintentionally killed or injured with sword-fishing nets * been fighting to permit oil drilling in the last untouched wildlife refuge in Alaska * aggressively weakening rules for greenhouse gas emissions The world is better off without him in power. Here's to a more compassionate future. (For more details, see: https://www.nytimes.com//trump-environment-rollbacks-list.)
