Happy Halloween! Every child has fun dressing up in costumes, carving pumpkins and most of all, the candy! Every parent dreads the sugar rush, begging for more candy and the fears of dental cavities. Here's how you can make halloween candy last a year or reduce the rapid sugar consumption. 1) Hide it! Out of sight, out of mind. Do not allow them to keep any candy in their room. Most candy, particularly chocolate and caramels can be frozen. Hard candies can be kept on a hi...gh inside cupboard. Freezing will mean the child may have to wait until its thawed to consume, so they will have to plan ahead, and patience will be learned 2) Limit the number of candies to two per day, at separate times and none within 2 hours of bedtime or three hours of waking up. 3) Have your child choose several candies to be placed in a share bucket. Each time they ask for a candy they must place one in the share bucket. The share bucket is only to be offered to older or younger siblings who may not trick or treat, parents or visitors. You could also take it to work with you to share with co-workers. 4) Ensure your child is brushing their teeth following every piece of candy and before bed. 21 days and it should be a habit! 5) Check everything for safety and don't hesitate to discard anything you are uncertain about. Candy can be enjoyed in moderation, and this a great opportunity to teach your children now to enjoy the fun at Halloween and keep the candy as a real treat. Have a safe, fun, Healthy Happy Halloween! See more
