Elizabeth Cannon WISE Awards Application [You can still apply if you have not been involved in WISE, just WITS, and follow the same application process but answer the prompts, in the letter etc.., in terms of WITS. You can add how WITS is similar to WISE but still necessary as a club of its own.] Established in 2019 by Dr. Elizabeth Cannon (’82, ’10), these awards are granted, on the recommendation of the Dean of Science or designate, to female students majoring in science in... recognition of academic excellence and active involvement in WISE Acadia. Financial need may be considered, but is not a requirement. Born and raised in PEI, Elizabeth Cannon was a member of Acadia’s swim team and graduated with a BSc in Math and a CAS in 1982, continuing her education with a BSc, MSc and PhD in geomatics engineering from the University of Calgary where she later became the eighth President and Vice-Chancellor. From 1997 to 2002, she held the NSERC/Petro-Canada Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for the Prairie Region. In this capacity, she focused on raising public awareness about science and engineering careers for women. Please take note: The application is due on Monday, November 2, 2020 It is an undergraduate award and students who are majoring in science and actively involved with WISE Acadia are eligible to apply Three Awards of $1000.00 are available Preference may be given to students receiving a government student loan International students, as well as those from Canada and the US, are able to apply
