Another custom shelf request from @hayleselectricinc. This project involved taking used 2x4 pine wall studs from a complete renovation @hayleselectricinc were completing over in McNab St in Stratford, ON. Coming from a removed wall, these studs were decades old and had some expected markings and repair needs as you’d expect. (Bonus for me was that the Hayle team removed all the nails and cleaned up the studs nicely) Custom stain job.....a combination of Kona and Weathered ...Oak by Minwax. Finished with satin polyurethane, sprayed with @wagnerspraytech. Thanks again to the Hayle’s for entrusting another project to me. Much appreciated and if you don’t follow these folks, you should. 18 Mini River Tray with lake glass from Lake Huron beaches. It’s been a while since I’ve poured an epoxy river. Good thing @2lan.designs and @burntbrydgeswoodco gave me some advice to get me going again. One thing I didn’t do, as the last pic shows, is clamp the wood pieces down. I assumed the 10lbs weights I had on them was enough to keep the wood down, but nope, the first epoxy level (poured at 3-4mm) lifted the wood. This made the base layer thinner than expected, which... I neglected to fix since I didn’t know. Anyways, the 2nd layer has sand and my pour router bit had to blast thru it as I was reflattening. I need some better buffering, but overall the top turned out pretty good. Candle Boats. These eye catching candles are a sure conversation piece in any home. Very unique, handcrafted, and stylish.... Most are made from Cherry, although I tried a few Ash pieces. Not sure how many Ash pieces I’ll do again as the router job needed for the carve out takes longer, and can be a bit of a fire hazard! Anyone who has worked with Ash knows what I’m talking about. Stained various colours and finished with 2 coats of Osmo Polyx-Oil. The large cherry with no wax weighs 8.6lbs and the lg ash with no wax weighs 11.4lbs, oh, and there’s about 2-1/2-3lbs of wax in those ones too. We use crafters sheet metal beneath the wicks for added safety, although it should go without saying no candle should be left unattended!!!! Large - 20 candles. 24x 6x 4-1/4 Medium/small - 10 candle (although I think 12 can fit next time) 15x 6x 4-1/4 Small - 8 candle 11x 6x 4-1/4 Each filled with over 1 of soy wax, giving over 30-40hrs of burn. We can add fragrance and or colouring too if requested on new candles or refills. There’s a lot of elbow grease that goes into the making of these and they’re not easy to bang out. Various steps and a rather difficult and tedious sanding process. Sanding a table top much easier than sanding one of these beauties! Half these are already sold. Now taking orders for Xmas. Spalted Maple Clock with Wenge and Maple bow ties. This was a super fun project. A very nice lady from London, ON bought this for her hubby’s birthday. She was patient, and forgiving for the fact this was my first go at bow ties. Clearly I haven’t perfected it yet, even though I did a couple of practice rounds before. I used a bandsaw jig to cut the bow ties, then carved the bow tie outline into the cookie. I used a router to carve the inlay to depth, then chiseled out the s...ides and corners. Technically the bow ties should be cut so the grain runs along the long side of the bow tie - this is for strength since bow ties are used as a structural support in most cases. But I figured the grains looked cooler the other way and that structural support wasn’t a priority with this cookie that’s already split.
