New batteries for X-mas toys? Batteries don’t belong in your municipal recycling bin. Make sure you take your old, used batteries to a Call2Recycle collection location which can be found at retailers and recycling depots across B.C., including Staples, The Home Depot, London Drugs, Lowes/RONA, Canadian Tire and Best Buy. #RecyclingWorks #batteryrecycling

Halloween is this weekend so here are a few tips to help minimize that waste: Avoid plastic disposable bags and opt for cloth bags, like pillowcases, for holding treats. All those crinkly candy wrappers & chip bags can all be recycled in the other flexible plastic category for Recycle BC’s pilot waste to energy program. Although these are not accepted in curbside pickup, these are accepted at Recycle BC depots or London Drugs locations. Candy boxes can be recycled as cardb...oard in blue box. Wearing a costume? Think outside the box and reuse what you may already have in your closet. Once halloween is over, think of donating your costume to a secondhand store or check if the local theatre or childcare center is in need of any costumes. Don't trash that pumpkin, turn it into a treat. Turn the flesh into a delicious pumpkin pie or cheesecake and roast the seeds for a light snack or bird feed. Or check with a local farmer that may have livestock that would enjoy a pumpkin treat. If nothing else, put it in your backyard compost or for pick up ( where service is available). Stay safe & have fun. #recyclingworks #wastereduction #spookyseason #trickortreat See more
