It's been over two months since our lives have dramatically shifted, and we can't ignore the emotional toll this places on separated parents, youths, and those dealing with intimate partner violence. Remember: there are resources available, and people want to help you! Family Service Saskatoon is one group offering affordable, sliding-scale phone counselling. You may be isolated, but you don't have to do it alone... https://www.facebook.com//a.52805443389/2850389444998488/
Our experienced Family Law Group wants to extend a big note of thanks to all of you and our clients during these trying times! We have all worked remotely and with limited court availability to continue pushing your important matters forward towards conclusion. Now much of our team is back in our office and the courts are ready for a surge of activity. Remember that our lawyers are your zealous advocates, whether it be a negotiated agreement or complex litigation. Give us a call to start helping you and your family! Talk soon.
Although we have quite limited access to our courts at present, we are still busy negotiating a wide range of agreements. We work on pre-nuptial or nuptial agreements that express how spouses understand their individual property, separation agreements that set out fair child and support arrangements, as well as more unique agreements such as those setting out rights and obligations in a child surrogacy situation. Give us a call if an amicable and fair agreement is something you are looking to have prepared. We are here to help.
One of the most important questions for those considering separation is How do we tell the kids? The answer to this, and other child related queries, is provided in our Family Law Group’s article: Top Five Questions Separating Couples Ask":
Our Queen’s Bench court has provided a timeline on loosening restrictions. Starting June 1, 2020, pre-trial conferences will once again be heard, and the court will begin hearing all chambers applications. Unless there is a compelling reason to require in-person attendance, pre-trial conferences and chambers applications will be conducted via telephone. To accommodate the expected backlog of court applications, the court will be adding substantially more hearing dates over t...he summer. We respect the court’s decision to proceed cautiously, and in a manner that preserves both safety and access to court resources. The official update from the court can be found here: https://sasklawcourts.ca///Resources/COVID_Update_4_23.pdf
