Happy Birthday to my father Frank Dempsey who is 90 years old today!!!

The conversation around Mudders supper table tonight over a feed of Stewed Beans with Turnip Carrot Potato Salt Beef and Doughbuoys and this being Old Christmas Day: This was a night for jannies and hobby horses. She remembers Old Jim Rideout dressed up as a horse with a big ole box over his head and a veil over that..a big hump on he's back and lon nails for teeth..chasing people around scaring them but everyone knew who he was because of he's size anywsy. He was a big man!... There would be 14 or 15 jannies in the kitchen at a time..dancing around..singing songs..guessing who they were..granny was all for having funny and she sang a few songs like Young Monroe and My old Kentucky Home. Uncle Mick Lewis use to play the accordion. She'd make lots of food like beet salad with chunks of apples that she'd get from Jack Quigleys store once a year and sge grew her own beets. She'd have a pot of salt beef simmering on the stive all day...with whole onions in the pot too...in the evening she'd take it of the stove and pull it apart like we does pulled pork...lay it on a plate and put it out in the porch to get cold because they didn't have a fridge..she said people loved it...Gord walsh longed for it. She'd make Beet Wine and Dandelion wine and make beer from a can of Blue Ribbon Malt. Now mind ya she never drank..she liked to treat people..but if you got tipsy or out of line she would take you be the arm and lead you to the porch and out the door you went. Grandfather didn't either she said...he had he's first drink when Bridge was growed up and married and on her own! .............she also said the barn had to be cleaned out this day and all new grass and hay had to be put in for all the animals cows and sheep and everything...this is the day that the animals knelt to pray...or so the old people said.. We are so excited and anxious for this Covid to be over so we can get up and running again! We have so many wonderful things planned! The one we are working har...d on is our Fleur de Lys Dinner Threatre! So many beautiful stories of our history and culture that we will reinact! Storytelling and music and off course food!
