A historic milestone toward ending GBV, the Joint Declaration for a Canada free of Gender-Based Violence was endorsed today by Min Monsef and her provincial and territorial counterparts. It showcases strong FPT collaboration and represents important progress in developing the first National Action Plan to end GBV in Canada. #EndGBV

Did you know? To build a Canada free of gender-based violence for all, Minister Monsef and her provincial and territorial counterparts met with National Indigenous Leaders and Representatives on January 15 to discuss ways to prevent and address gender-based violence toward Indigenous women, girls, and LGBTQ2 people. #EndGBV

Yesterday and today, Minister Monsef co-chaired the 38th annual federal-provincial-territorial meeting of Ministers responsible for the Status of Women. As #COVID19 sheds light on the shadow pandemic of gender-based violence across the country, they are discussing building a Canada free of GBV. #EndGBV

Continuing consultations on the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence, Minister Monsef and MP Lyne Bessette met with representatives from women’s shelters and sexual assault centres to learn from their expertise and gather advice and recommendations on how to end gender-based violence in Canada. #EndGBV

Justice Rosalie Abella was the first Jewish woman appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada. In 1984, she created the term and concept of "employment equity" as Commissioner of the Royal Commission on Equality in Employment. Born in a displaced persons camp in Germany, she came to Canada as a refugee in 1950. By 1976, she was the youngest and first pregnant judge appointed to the Ontario Family Court.
