Women's March Canada 26.02.2021

February 11 is Moose Hide Campaign Day, where across Canada, participants will gather virtually for a day of action, inspiration, ceremony, and fasting. The Moo...se Hide Campaign is a British Columbia grassroots movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous men who are standing up against violence towards women and children. The campaign has a mission to end violence towards women and children by promoting gender equity, healthy relationships, and positive ideas of masculinity by speaking out against gender-based violence. 10 Million Moose Hide squares will be distributed across Canada, and wearing it signifies a commitment to honour, respect, and protect women and children. Derek Gent, CEO of our sister organization, YMCA-YWCA Vancouver Island is fasting this year to raise awareness. This campaign encourages men in particular to stand up and to speak out about the issue of gender based violence, and recognizes the continued prevalence against indigenous women and girls. By fasting I focus my attention, deepen my personal commitment, seek healing and protest against the social norms that allow this to continue. By attaching the pin each morning I ground myself with awareness, and then encourage conversation with others when people ask about it. We urge all Canadians across Canada, and right here in Regina to get involved and show their commitment to ending violence toward women and children. Learn more about the campaign and how you can take part virtually by checking out @moose_hide_campaign and visiting http://moosehidecampaign.ca Swipe to see Derek and his son with their moose hide pins. The research shows that for every pin worn, 5 new conversations are sparked. We can all work together to speak out and speak for Indigenous women and girls. #MooseHideCampaignDay #MMIW #MMIWG2S #MooseHideCampaign #MooseHidePledge #endviolence #YWCA #YMCA

One Billion Rising is a global campaign to end rape and sexual violence against women. The "billion" refers to the UN statistic that one in three women will be raped or beaten in her lifetime, or about one billion. Get involved with One Billion Rising Sask to make care packages for survivors of domestic violence at YWCA Regina and Regina Transition House in February. https://gofund.me/da76e326

Repost from Black Lives Matter YXE "Hollywood is full of movies about slavery, segregation, and the Black struggle, and while these films can serve as important educational tools especially during Black History Month it is important to step back and remember that films about trauma are not the be-all and end-all of Black entertainment. Black people deserve happy-go-lucky romances, cultural explorations, and cheesy coming-of-age movies, too! So, if you're looking for a way to ring in Black History Month 2021, read books by Black authors, follow Black influencers, and check out this list of amazing Black films, minus the trauma."

REPOST from Women’s March Ottawa Canada has a problem with racism. We cannot ignore this fact. We cannot ignore the ways white supremacy and colonialism interact, resulting in violence against Indigenous peoples across the country. Speak up and speak out against it. You can use this tool to contact politicians and send them an email expressing your concern and anger about the ongoing situation.
