It's hard to believe that the East Toronto Health Partners was approved as one of the first Ontario Health Teams a year ago. We are very proud of this agile and collaborative partnership. Have a look at some of our most critical achievements in 2020. http://ow.ly/384d50CXIkp
Early in the pandemic, @RealFoodforRealKids committed to matching their customer’s contributions towards food for WoodGreen clients and throughout 2020, they’ve contributed meals to various programs across the organization. During this holiday season, meals went to WoodGreen’s Streets to Homes program and brought some smiles from WoodGreen social workers and clients alike THANK YOU! #DifferenceMakers #community
Many seniors in #Toronto were suffering from social isolation before the pandemic, but COVID-19 has made the situation far worse. Rochelle McAlister, Sr. Manager of Seniors Mental Health & Addictions at WoodGreen, shares the uptick we've seen from our Toronto Seniors Helpline. In 8 months, the helpline fielded more than 22,000 incoming calls. In addition, family members and caregivers often call to find out how to support their loved one in isolation. https://www.cbc.ca//toronto-seniors-helpline-woodgreen-ris
Thank you to the Girl Guides of Canada and the Toronto East Rotary Club for brightening the holidays for many seniors. Kids from the 129th Toronto Brownies made these wonderful cards, which were delivered with tasty turkey lunches on Christmas Day to 500 seniors in our community. The Toronto East Rotary Club have been sponsoring this event for 16 years. Volunteer includes community members, WoodGreen’s Meals on Wheels Program and a team of 19 Rotarians.
We’re moving forward into a city that’s only available for the very rich or those in poverty who are eligible and can access government programs and community housing, said VP of Policy and Strategy at WoodGreen, Michelle German. As one of Toronto’s largest non-profit housing providers, we believe housing is a right. There are about 330,000 Torontonians earning between $40,000 and $60,000 a year and they keep our city running. As the Toronto Star reports, their inability to afford a home has become a critical issue that risks not only the wellbeing of essential workers, but Toronto’s vitality and diversity. https://www.thestar.com//everybody-in-the-middle-is-gettin
