Mastering Shou Sugi Ban (or Yakisugi) This is an ancient Japanese technique that preserves wood by charring it with fire. Traditionally, Sugi wood (cryptomeria japonica L.f., also called Japanese cedar) was used to side homes. The process involves charring the wood, cooling it, cleaning it, and finishing it with a natural oil Who doesn’t love it?

I was asked to create something unique, a custom Ornament Box, what a wonderful idea!! A client wanted to gift her son a box for Christmas in which she filled it with ornaments collected over the last 25 years; how beautiful and sentimental is that?

Why yes it does!
