Folding domino table ready for delivery.

WoodStock Sarnia 05.11.2020

In the summer I don't spend much time in the shop. I prefer to be outside in the gardens etc. I have completed a couple of small projects that I thought I'd share. I created a small table using drift-wood and some repurposed glass. I also found two very functional but quite weathered folding end tables at our local re-store. I decided to disassemble these, sand down the pieces, reassemble and refinish them. I'm pretty happy with how these turned out. I have some other plans for a folding type table that I'll share in the near future but in the mean time please enjoy this beautiful weather and thanks for following along.

So I finally finished off our potting bench. Sue had a suggestion that we place the bench in a different location than what I had originally envisioned. This decision led to a need for a structure that would allow us to stack our firewood better. I decided to build this small wood shed that will store just over a full face-cord of firewood. Once the firewood shed was completed we finished off and situate the potting bench. Both projects are finished with cedar shingles which blends in nicely with the gardens. As the weather improves, our focus will switch to the outdoors and gardening. I have some updated pictures that I'll share in a separate post with regards to our crying corner. Stay tuned and thanks for following along.

Next, I will box in the sides and back of our potting bench. I'm repurposing some old baseboard that had been stashed in my father-in-law's garage for years (thank you Sandy McGeachy). This base board was about 1" thick and approximately 8" high. I used my table saw to rip off the top decorative portion (see first picture pieces on the left). I then ran the baseboard planks through the planer (pictured right) and rough cut to length. I will use these pieces to box in the bottom of the bench. I thought people might be interested in seeing the before and after pictures of these old base boards. Please note that it's important to remove all nails when repurposing older wood. I pulled three old square-headed nails from these boards prior to cutting and planing. Stay tuned for further assembly ...

Great progress on our potting table today. The frame-work has been fabricated and assembled. Next, I'll need build-in the bottom cabinet part and finish the bench-top. I'll post again as further elements of this project get completed. Stay tuned for more and thanks for following along!
