Workplace Matters 02.01.2021

The best thank-you I've received from a client throughout this whole COVID-19 episode. I've been a sounding board to this entrepreneur and his business for almost 15 years now. He had to make some pretty tough decisions recently that many heart-centered entrepreneurs don't make lightly. Here's what he emailed to me last night, ... "Thank-you Thank-you for your support today. [I] always appreciate your professionalism through this challenging time for all. Take Care Stay Safe and Live Well." I gave him 2 Gold Stars yesterday. He's famous for handing out proverbial "gold stars". And, top level leaders don't often get positive feedback - especially after they've delivered bad news. Why did he get 2 gold stars? For being transparent, vulnerable and real in his communication with his team. That's so important in any environment, and especially now. For making decisions based on the head (what makes good business sense) and the heart (what makes sense given the people factor). Has someone been a sounding board to you lately? How can you reach out and thank them? Is a leader deserving of some positive feedback on how they've handled a difficult situation - reach out and give them a Gold Star. Be sure to tell them why! If you run a business and don't have a sounding board to help you think through challenging situations, message me and I'll schedule time to chat.

"In scary times, our suffering gets worse when we want things to just go back. We like to think resilience means bouncing back, getting back to business as usual, going back to normal. But 'back' is just a way we cling to the old, clutching to what we know ...even if it isn’t serving us. We hold on to what, in actuality, is ready to be released. And the harder we fght to get 'back', the more turbulent everything gets. But when we become resilient, we live into the expansion..., and we move forward." ~ Christine Kane As cities and towns start to "reopen" and we slowly return back to business, leaders are being called to stretch their limits so they can help their teams meet the challenges of our new world. To prepare for this challenge, and support your team in being as resiient and effective as they can be, I encourage you to reflect on questions such as these ... What have I learned about myself as a leader, a spouse, a parent, a friend? What's the new normal that I want in my business, my team, and my life? How has this situation called me to expand as a leader? What are the challenges that we (my work team and my home team) must face together to move forward? What do my stakeholders require from the team now? What kind of leadership does my team need from me at this time? What support do I need at this time to grow through this experience? Your resilience resides within your answers.

"Just because you are a work in progress, doesn't mean you are broken." An important message from me to you today. Thought you might need to hear it.
