Have you ever encountered a child throwing a ‘tantrum’ and unable to stop? What if I tell you that asking them to stop or go to your room is the wrong way to handle this? Generally, there is a reason for children ‘acting out.’ For the sake of conversation we may say they need attention. Of course, they need something! There is an unmet need that requires to be attended to. They do not know how to ask for it, and therefore resort to crying incessantly or screaming. As a ...Continue reading

This quote makes so much sense. Accept that times are very different. Try to stop questioning your productivity. We are all in this together, trying to figure this out! Have you ever had passing thoughts such as I wish I had someone to talk to who would not judge me and would listen to what I have to say without giving advice. If you have, maybe talking to a therapist would be a great option for you. There are many reasons why you could benefit from talking to a therapist. Most of all because it is easier to talk to a stranger than to relatives or friends. You may think differently but talking to someone outside of your family or your clos...est circle can be beneficial to bring in a newer and different perspective. It is even better because a psychotherapist listens to you and helps you find your own answers to problems, without any judgement. They will give you time to talk, cry, shout or just think. They will allow you to have the space and sometimes your therapy is just taking a break from your everyday life and sitting down and focusing on YOU. And if you want to stand you can do that too It is an opportunity to look at your problems in a different way with someone who will respect you and your opinions. The aim of all therapy is to help you feel better. A therapist will help you develop your skills to cope better in challenging situations in life. They may be able to help and guide you to untangle your overcrowded mind. A Psychotherapist is also bound by privacy and confidentiality, so your secrets are safe. However, there are limits to confidentiality that will be discussed with you at your first session. Therapy is a safe, supportive, empathic space to explore the aspects of self you may not know exists. Therapy will help you discover and achieve what you truly desire and mostly look at you as the expert of your life. It will not focus on what anyone else desires for you. And there is no need to impress your therapist which in turn will give you the freedom to be authentic! These are some great reasons why you should think about talking to a psychotherapist or a counsellor. And remember taking care of our mental health is as important as taking care of our physical health. One cannot exist without the other! -WorthyMind Psychotherapy-

Control the things you can control in the moment because that is all you can do. Focus on the present moment. Be cognizant of what you can control. And when thoughts are spiralling focus again on things that you can control! Practice makes perfect! <3

Something I hear a lot in my practice is that people want to be happy - constantly. ALL THE TIME. Even at times when they have lost a loved one, lost a relationship, lost an opportunity, they speak of wanting to be happy. They question their unhappiness, why can’t I be happy, why can’t I move on, why am I the only one?. People have become so uncomfortable with discomfort. As rightly said in the quote below, people are more unhappy about being unhappy. One of my more powe...rful responses to this is: can you give yourself permission to feel sad?. Almost every time, the client is glad to hear this. Because they feel like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders. The fact that I'm saying it’s okay to feel sad, - it's as though I'm giving them permission to mourn a loss. Let’s learn to feel okay about being unhappy sometimes. Let’s practice acceptance. Let’s remember that change is the only thing that is constant.

Would you rather have someone who is incessantly trying to give you advice OR someone who is willing to listen to your side of the story? Listening is a skill we should all try to practice. Listening has power. It has the power to soothe, calm, empower people! It also enables people to believe in themselves and change anything they don't like about themselves!

Remember everyone is different. We are all going through a tough time. Having unrealistic expectations from yourself may lead you to be more anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. For some, having goals set, working through this pandemic will give them a sense of control. None of these are wrong. It's okay if you cannot do anything productive right now. The key is talking to someone, asking for help, reaching out to family and friends and sharing your thoughts and feelings to get through this. It is important for you to understand yourself and find what works for YOU because you are unique!

A beautiful quotation from Viktor Frankl's book, Man's Search for Meaning about the innate need of people to have the freedom to make choices in their own way, as they please.
