Our WOS, the Logan Lake Ladies Day Out, went very smoothly! Pastor Mauricio and his wife Crystal from Church On The Hill were so very welcoming and helpful! When Julie Hoffman from Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Center (our event partner) and I showed up to set things up at 9:00 am, Crystal and Mauricio has already set tables up with tablecloths and lovely centerpieces. Mauricio made us a video montage of all the speakers and activities, and allowed us to use the micro...phone, as well as recording all of the speakers for us! They stayed for the entire day and Mauricio manned the mixing board to adjust volumes, etc. Lunch was very tasty and well received, and our speakers were knowledgeable and well-prepared. Mauricio’s self-defence class was fun and informative, and the yoga class run by our own retired member, Karen Harvey, was very relaxing and rejuvenating. Hopefully we can make this an annual event! Many thanks also to Carrie McNeely for her excellent talk on in/body/spirit health. She is a well-informed, consummate professional. Melanie McConnell, WOS 7619 Chair

On the final day of the #USW International Women's Conference, Women of Steel took to the floor to share how they will be #AnsweringTheCall when they go back to their locals and their communities. From taking action on #MMIWG; to taking action on mental health and addictions; to taking action on providing better education of women's issues in our local unions; to taking action in electing representatives on both sides of the border who will work for us and with us; to taking action on solidarity with sisters locked out/on strike; and everything in between. The world is on our shoulders - and we are up for it. More: usw.to/2qs #canlab #1u

MYTH: Skilled trade work isn’t important. BUSTED: Skilled tradespeople often speak about their strong sense of accomplishment; they are masters of their field. Their work touches almost every aspect of our daily lives: roads and sidewalks, schools, hospitals, bridges, offices, homes, cars, food from processing plants, water and electricity from BC’s growing resource sector, and more. https://bit.ly/1mQfxxH #WOS #USW7619
