As most of our existing families and friends of Warren Park probably already know, the GTHL has taken the prudent decision to delay the Return To Ice for all the clubs in its jurisdiction. Here is the message our President has sent to all our families last night. Stay Safe. -=-... October 4, 2020 Dear Warren Park Players and Parents, I trust this email finds you safe and healthy! Back on October 1, we communicated to you our plans to return to play for October 17. However, the GTHL (our governing body) announced yesterday that all sanctioned activities (on and off the ice) have been postponed until January 4. The decision comes because of a sudden increase in COVID infection rates combined with a statement from Toronto’s Chief Medical Officer recommending putting a pause on indoor sports activities. You can read the GTHL’s press release here. The Warren Park Executive team will monitor the situation and keep you updated as we get more information. In the meantime, we will continue to be diligent with the implementation of the safety protocols and training required for the return to play. Our goal is to have all aspects ready once the season opens. Please note we have delayed the last installment of registration fees until after January 4. We will assess the final cost of the season once we have started our return to play. No one is more eager than me to get the season started. Hockey has been an integral part of my life and has taught me a great deal. At this moment, this pandemic is testing my abilities to be patient. Did you read what that sign says? If you're a safe driver, you kept your eyes on the road and missed it. Let me tell you what it says. It says that Hockey is Back and your friendly local league and that you don't want you to miss out on all the fun. Be a pal, and share this with your friends and on all your local community pages. We're looking forward to having everyone back on the ice with safe protocol.

Get those skates sharpened, dust off (or air out) the equipment bag, and maybe make sure everything still fits, we've all put on a few "quarantine" pounds, and the kids grow so fast, we're just a few weeks from getting back on the ice. Also, make sure your friends and former teammates are also registered, as we will be making the teams/working groups shortly. Things will be a little different this season, but the one thing that won't change is our love and enjoyment of the game.

'tis the Season for giving! One of our longest-serving and most dedicated Select coach, Frank Sheffield (U-21) is challenging all Warren Park Hockey teams to collect a Hockey Bag O’ Food and drop it off at any charity food collection centre of your choosing. The actual Food Bank is always a good location but Fire Stations also work and many grocery stores have charity food bins inside their store. Collect, drop, snap a pic., post on Instagram or Twitter, and tag us, and may...be add a new "ashtag". How about #SheffsHockeyBagOFoodChallenge. I don't know how many Select Coaches are following us on FB, but any parent can get the challenge started. As an inspiration, here is Frank's photo from last year.

Many of you know Frank Sheffield as Warren Park's U21 Coach and as our longest-serving parent and volunteer. But very few probably know about his hockey roots and family history. For Black History month, Frank and his family were featured on CBC radio. Have a listen and get to know one of our favourite coaches better.

What a weekend for our Select Teams! Congrats to our Pee We Red team for their Silver Medal in Montreal this weekend. In addition to a couple of individual awards in the essay contest and a runner up performance in the goalie contest, the team won fair play award for having the least penalties across the round robin.

It was a pleasure to attend this summit, and we are looking forward to working with our other West-End Hockey friends to make the game stronger in the area we live and work.

Congratulations to our Minor Bantam White who are taking home a bronze medal from Lake Placid's CanAm tournament. They are very proud of their comeback win: down 1-0 in the 3rd period, they managed to kill off a 5 on 3 power play and score 3 goals in the last 5 mins for a 3-1 win.

We all know our Atom Select team rules, but it's always better when we hear it from a different source. Congrats to all players, coaching staff, and supporting parents.

What a weekend it was for our Warren Park Eagles Select teams at the Leaside Select Invitational Tournament. 4 teams made finals of their divisions with Major Novice U9 winning the Gold and Minor Bantam White U14, Major Peewee Red U13 and Major Atom U11 taking home Silver medals. Congrats to all players, coaches, and a big Thank You to parents.

As some of you may have heard "Rowan's Law" (Concussion Safety) was made the law of Ontario last year. Our governing bodies the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) have worked with Hockey Canada and now implemented a Concussion Code of Conduct for the upcoming 2019/20 season. Each Hockey Association (like Warren Park) must have all participants (players, parents, Coaches in House League Select, and Rep) review the Ontario Government's... Concussion Awareness Resource(s) and sign/acknowledge by written signature that they understand the Code and commit to operating within the parameters of the Code. This is an enormous task for the admin Volunteers at WP and across all minor sports. We need everyone to do what they can, mainly - READ, SIGN and SEND IN your child's form. CONGRATULATIONS! To both Major PeeWee and Major Bantam Red Select teams who respectively won their tournaments in Niagara Falls, NY, and Parry Sound, ON. this weekend. What a Tournament season it's been. A big thank you to all the coaches and parents that make it possible for the kids to enjoy this success while playing the sport they love so much.

As parents and volunteers we know the impact coaches can have on kids. This week, the minor sports communities of York/West-End lost a big friend. At Warren Park Hockey and the Toronto Eagles, we mostly knew him as "the Zamboni guy" who maintained our arenas (first Lambton, then Chis Tonks). But what many didn't know, is that hockey was not his first love, Baseball was. And to hundreds of West-End kids, he was #CoachZak. Peter "Zak" Zakkak dedicated his life to coaching base...ball for the York Blue Jays and the West Toronto Wildcats, in addition to maintaining the North Keelesdale Park diamonds. I have been fortunate to see the impact he's had on my son and other kids. His loss leaves a hole that will be very hard to fill. Please have a special thought for his family and his close friends. Congratulations to the Bantam White (2004) Select team for bringing back the gold from the Montreal Canada Cup tournament for a second year in a row!

Congratulations to our Minor Midget (2003) Select Eagles on coming home with the Bronze medal from the CHE Canadian Cup at Isatis Sport in St-Constant, QC this weekend, where they were the obvious underdog. It is not easy finding non-contact out-of-town tournaments at that age, so when you are an NYHL Tier 3 team and know you are going to face a team from Tier 2 and one from Tier 1, and a local "top tier" Cohort Team (2001, 2002, 2003 born) you need to step up your game, and they did. Two wins vs. Tier 2 North Toronto, and a very hard-fought loss to Tier 1 George Bell has made all co aches and parents very proud.

Congratulations to our Major Novice Select Eagles for their performance at the Amesbury/Bert Robinson Tournament. They made it to the final and while caming a little short in a 2-1 loss, they showed heart and determination and made us all proud. The future is bright!!!

What a great evening it was for our Tyke players and their parents at the Maple Leafs game last night! Thank you Tim Hortons for an experience these kids (and parents) will never forget.

'tis the season for giving! It’s not just our 10 year olds that do good community work. Our U21 team had a Christmas Hockey Bag O’ Food Drive where the players and coaches brought canned food and dry goods to their last game before Christmas. In this photo is our dynamic Sheffield family of Daniel Sheffield, Coach Frank and Richard Sheffield are dropping it off at a Food Bank bin. The "Sheffs" have been playing at Warren Park since Learn To Play and their legacy will always be with us even after they ride off into the sunset by challenging all teams to keep it going year after year. Thank you Frank!!!

Our friends from the Warren Park Hockey League's Minor Atom select team visited the hospital with their parents and siblings last night to spread a little holiday cheer and help the patients make Christmas ornaments! Here are some of the moments we captured:

Queen Victoria Public School is an inner-city school located in Parkdale. at Close Ave. and King St, serving over 700 students coming from many different countries. Many of their students have recently arrived in Canada. Every year the teaching staff putts great efforts organizing skating days for the kids. Over the years through private and corporate donations, the school has built a good inventory of skates to lend the kids to allow them to have that true Canadian Winter e...xperience. As you will see in the attached Tweet from one of Queen Vic's teachers, they are in needs of more skates. If you have used skates lying around your basement or garage, the school would be pleased to accept your donations.
