During WWI, 152 Winnipeg Police Officers took leave to join the military - 29 lost their lives. During WWII, a number of officers again took leave to join the military - 5 lost their lives. To this day, numerous Winnipeg Police Officers continue to enroll in the military in their mission to protect Canadians. Join us in sharing a moment of silence at 11:11am as we remember the men and women who served and lost their lives, those who returned from war and those who continue to serve on behalf of our nation. #RemembranceDay https://youtu.be/dymfdXc1Xh8

From the late 20’s until May 27, 1931, when the force constructed its first ever revolver range in the basement of the Rupert Street station, officers were permitted to use the facilities at what is now a federal heritage building, the McGeegor Street Armoury. One of the earliest known revolver teams in Winnipeg was from E division - Canadian Champions 1926 - 1927, C. Tangstad, G.T Stokes, J. Granby, J. Brune, R. McDonald, E. Dobbs. Combat shoots in North America originated... in 1958 and opened to all officers in 1959. Winnipeg was the only Canadian team to the attend the first international shoot held in Bloomington, Indiana during May 1958 with teams from 22 American states. That team consisted of N.Stewart, S.Smyth, D.Thorsteinson, and R.Taylor. Later the same year, Winnipeg Police built a small outdoor range adjacent to the Winnipeg Revolver and Pistol Club at the Glen Murphy Range. In 1961 Winnipeg hosted the first Canadian competitive outdoor combat shoot. #wpshistory #wpghistory #wpgmuseum #winnipeg #police #combatshooting @bloomingtonpd #canadianhistory #revolverteam

The school patrol program in winnipeg goes way back! Below, CST R.Scott of the St James - Assiniboine Police Department provides a grade 5 student with some patrol safety tips. The museum would like to expand on this history and we are looking artifacts related to school patrols. If you can help, contact the museum at Wps-museum@winnipeg. #wpsmuseum #wpgmuseum #winnipeg #winnipeghistory #schoolpatrol #history #artifacts #policemuseum

In the late 70’s District 2 police were experiencing a high number of accidents on Portage Ave between St James and Headingley. As a result this light bar was fashioned to warn people to slow down. One officer reports taking off after a speeder and forgetting to lower it. What a sight that would have been to see! #wpshistory #wpghistory #wpgmuseum #police #policecar #traffic #justslowdown #plymouth #trafficpolice

Our doors are open! We are pleased to be participating in doors open from a safe distance. While things are a little different this year we still have our dynamic volunteers sharing information throughout the museum. We are welcoming walk ins provided we can keep everyone a safe distance from each other.
