WR Davey Insurance was one of several sponsors at the IBD Foundation's Embassy Chef Challenge to help raise money for a great cause. The event was first class and included fantastic dishes from all over the world with 11 countries competing - Malaysia won the top award with Trinidad & Tobago taking the People's Choice award. Our late and dear friend, David Benn, was a huge supporter of the IBD Foundation where he served on the board for several years. David also suffered from IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) so the foundation was a very important part of his life. WR Davey Insurance looks forward to continually support the foundation and this great event.

Intact Insurance has introduced a new commerical product to cover Uber drivers from the moment they are available to take a ride request. While this is a big step to cover the previous gap in insurance all Uber drivers and passengers faced there is still a need for Uber drivers to cover themselves for personal use. Intact Insurance has said they will cover Uber drivers for personal use on a personal auto policy while the Uber use would be covered under the new commercial policy. However, we are still waiting to hear the position from other insurance companies regarding the personal use for Uber drivers. Currently they are not covering it. For now Intact Insurance is the only one. See link below for more details.

On June 1st the auto insurance industry implemented more changes to the auto insurance product - most notably the accident benefits portion. The changes include further reductions in your standard accident benefits coverages and limits, which were previously reduced in September 2010. The changes are in effect for new policies starting after June 1st and for existing policies renewing after June 1st. For example, if your policy doesn't renew until December then the changes won't impact your policy until your renewal date. It's strongly recommended that you contact your broker to further discuss these changes and determine if any adjustments should be made to your policy to ensure that you are properly covered.

Before there was a WR Davey Insurance there was Davey & Benn Insurance. The Benn was represented by a great man who helped forge who we are today. It’s with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Benn after a long and difficult fight with cancer. David was a colleague, mentor, and friend. David’s motto was always live for today and that we can assure you he did. Aside from work his passions were golf, travel, and his family. He loved them all immensely and... dedicated considerable time and energy to each. His sense of humour was sharp and witty which helped keep the office environment loose and relaxed. He was always there to offer support whether it be enhancing our professional skills or providing countless advice. He would stop anything he was doing if you needed him. He may no longer be here but that doesn’t mean he’s still not with us. He’ll be forever loved and never forgotten. Rest in peace friend. See more

WR Davey Insurance and Travelers Canada were at the Tim Horton's Brier this past weekend promoting our brands. It was our first time meeting some members of the Travelers team and we all had a great time. The Photo Booth was especially popular with the curling fans. The Brier was an outstanding event with big crowds and world class curling. It was not only a great opportunity for us to showcase our brand and connect with the curling community but for the city of Ottawa to showcase itself and the newly developed landsdowne. A big thanks to Travelers Canada for inviting us to be a part of it.

WR Davey Insurance and Travelers Canada will be at the Tim Horton's Brier on March 12th and 13th for the finals weekend. Please stop by our booth where you will have the opportunity to have your picture taken to be on the cover of Extra End Magazine. You also don't want to miss the best curlers in the world in action. It should be a great weekend.

We are sad to announce that one of our staff, Carolyn Facette, has retired but after a long and successful career she deserves it. Carolyn will certainly be missed. On the flip side we are happy to welcome Sonya Tiekstra to the team. Like Carolyn she brings several years of experience in the industry and will continue to facilitate our renewal review process. We take a lot of pride in our rigorous review of all renewals as it provides our clients with the service and peace of mind that they deserve.
