I think these days we need more things that unite us. Like hockey. So I took the time to put some jokes together about the Leafs. Which is fine, because Habs are the best.... Who's your team?

It's February. Time to put on the pants instead of the shorts. What does February mean for you?

Looking to save money? Some tips: Replace one meal out with one really specially prepared meal in. Buy generic brands of things.... When you come into money (like a tax return or investment funds) mix it up between spending some, saving some and putting some against debt. Look at your phone bill, and figure out if you could be on a smaller plan. Shop for sales when getting groceries. Find free or low(er) cost activities to do. Wherever you are, there's lots. Pick up a hobby to occupy time. Often shopping, trips or "things" cost money, but you could save with hobbies. Anyone else have cool tips or tricks?

Running a small business? Some tips for finances: Decide how much you want to make. Work backwards and figure out what it will take per quarter/month/week to make that possible. Decide a maximum amount you'll have in expenses per month. Do not go past it.... Pay yourself first. Work with someone when it's beyond you. A financial professional (like me!), accountant, bookkeeper, bank, you name it. Set money aside for taxes. www.wrightwealth.ca

There are these things called SRI's - socially responsible investments...I can't stop thinking about! They're relatively new but gaining a lot of attention. They're getting attention because a) they're an investment so (in one manner or another) they grow your financial wealth, but also b) they put money into businesses and programs that benefit the planet, people, communities and do good.... It's the best of both worlds. Now, SRI's are not for everyone and not ideal for every situation, so if you're curious talk to me about this possibility.

The past does not equal the future. Ask where your money beliefs come from, and if they serve you. Money habits and beliefs from the past do not have to equal your financial future.

As we come into the holiday season, I want you to think about charitable acts. Obviously not just this time, but all year round, but we tend to think about this around the Holidays. Can you give your time, energy, or money? I give to my church (Trinity United), Hope House and The Seed, among others.... I encourage you to find places where you can give.

While we may not be able to gather in person, let us remember we enjoy ability to choose and freedom because of those who have come before us, fought and died. Thank you to soldiers for your service. Thank you to frontline workers.... Thank you to those who serve today. Thank you to those who continue the legacy of freedom.

It's not that I'm in denial about it being October, it's that I'm not giving up the shorts and sandals. Happy start to October!

Planning for later life or retirement is about deciding what you want, and deciding what you'll do today to make it happen. It's not about reducing everything, or "for a cup of coffee a day" making something happen. It's about a strategy.... A collection of behaviours. A series of opportunities taken. Be clear and honest to yourself what you want later in life - and when that is - and WHAT that is - and do something, anything, today to make it happen.

When we know better, we do better. -Maya Angelou This past year has been crazy for me. I've learned a lot, seen a lot and done a lot. That growth has really changed me, and I think some other people too.... How have you grown recently?

If you've seen in communications I add "MFA" beside my name, it's because I got my Master Financial Advisor license! I don't get these for the sake of getting them - it's just proof that I'm continually learning and getting better.

What is money mindset? It's your attitudes, beliefs and behaviours around money. It's moving from "I don't have enough" to "I can make this work" and "This works well for me", no matter what you have available to this.... It's opposite scarcity mindset. What do all those terms mean? If you see R in front of an acronym like RRSP, RSP or RESP it means registered. Common ones are REGISTERED education, retirement and savings plans. Credit: money leant to you to be paid back, with interest (you pay a bit for the service).... Chequings: A common type of spending account. Savings: A common type of account not designed for spending, and offers a (usually very very very) small interest rate. TFSA: Tax Free Savings Account. Think like a more active savings account. Insurance: Payments made for a certain event. Investments: Money given to another company to use, who give it back to you with some % of earnings or sharing. Not every tool or strategy is right for every person: but it's good to know you have options. Banks, brokers and firms offer these at varying scales, so play around with them. #Guelph #Financial #Consultant

Come for the financial advice, stay for the dad jokes. Today, dad jokes: "Dad, did you get a haircut?" "No, I got them all cut!" "How do you get a squirrel to like you? Act like a nut."... "I don't trust stairs. They're always up to something." "Did you hear the rumor about butter? Well, I'm not going to spread it!" "How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh? Ten tickles." "What kind of shoes do ninjas wear? Sneakers!" "I'm on a seafood diet. I see food and I eat it." "I made a pencil with two erasers. It was pointless."

As funny as this is, a good lesson: be bold, be yourself, first. There's no harm here. And it's relative. People may tell you you can't or shouldn't do something, but...go for it (as long as you don't harm others).... Make a splash. Sit on the sign.

Insurance is a gift you pass on to someone. Sometimes that gift is yourself (if you're sick, injured, need time off). Sometimes it's a gift to your loved ones (spouse, family member).... Sometimes it's a gift to a charity (ensuring they get money and continue). We love to get gifts, and we love to give gifts. Insurance is just another way to give a gift. www.wrightwealth.ca
