May is Children's Mental Health Awareness Month. There have been so many changes in response to protecting all of us from the consequences of Coronavirus. Everyone, including our children, has experienced some level of anxiety. Wondering what to say in some of these moments? Well, first I would suggest taking a slow deep breath. It's great for self-care as well as models a great in-the-moment strategies for your kiddos. Teach your kids by telling them to pretend they are smelling a favourite flower (or other smell - I like fresh baked cookies) and then pretend they are blowing out their birthday candles.
