Introducing Camille Spencer to our contemporary dance program! We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Camille Spencer to our KSD teaching Faculty : Camille's credentials and expertise in contemporary dance are impressive. She has international guest teaching experience and her community values mirror those of our school. She is an exceptional fit and is enthusiastic about building KSD's ... contemporary program, KYDE, as well as community initiatives. Her warm personality and passion for dance is contagious and will inspire our students to explore new possibilities in dance. In her own words: "I have diverse experiences dancing with and teaching for multiple levels, ages, and in world wide settings. I am originally from Utah, USA where I received my BFA in Dance, and Secondary Education degree. I have a passion for traveling and experiencing the diversity of the contemporary dance world. I have expanded my dance practices within the USA , United Kingdom and Australia . My training is rooted in Bartenieff Fundamentals, with a strong focus on traditional modern and ballet technique. I have engaged with cutting edge dance artists such as Gary Clarke (UK), Maxine Doyle (UK), Crystal Pite (CA), William Forsythe (GER), and Andrew Morrish (AU). I am most passionate about developing my own choreographic material and have choreographed works within university dance department, professional companies, independent dance collectives, high schools, festivals, and private studios. Screen dance and non conventional site specific works are of interest within my research and choreographic projects. Improvisation as a tool of creation and movement research is an important part of my practice and teaching style. Teaching is an important part of my dance practice. I love teaching young children and youth. They are discovering their creative bodies and finding those life long movement connections within themselves, each other, and their world. I love teaching beginners and advanced dancers in intense training as well as educational settings. Within these classes, we can delve into more complex sequences, experiment with wider improvisational and compositionally parameters, both physically and academically. It is a time to use kinesthetic and somatic language, within a learning environment. My other love for teaching is within the aged community. I am fully trained within the Dance for Parkinson’s teaching model and teach within the community. The positive effects towards physical and mental well-being that these classes can bring are the reasons why we dance in the first place!" We are so excited to dance with you today!!! Please see her beautiful website: https://camillemaedance.com/

Register Now!! Break Dance Classes, Thursdays at 4:00 pm What is it? Break dancing, also called breaking and B-boying, is an energetic form of dance, fashioned and popularized by African Americans and U.S. Latinos, that includes stylized footwork and athletic moves such as back spins or head spins. Break dancing originated in New York City during the late 1960s and early 1970s, incorporating moves from a variety of sources, including martial arts and gymnastics.... A practitioner of this dance is called a b-boy, b-girl, or breaker. Although the term "breakdance" is frequently used to refer to the dance in popular culture and in the mainstream entertainment industry, "b-boying" and "breaking" are the original terms and are preferred by the majority of the pioneers and most notable practitioners. Taking break dance lessons is a great way to improve fitness levels and is a super workout!! There are still spots available! Please email us at [email protected] for more information. https://www.facebook.com/watch/

Focus on Jazz Dance Do you want to really move? Then Jazz Dance is for you !! Jazz dance is an umbrella term encompassing several different styles of dance that became popular in the early 20th-century. Though jazz dance has mixed roots extending back through both African and European traditions, it's a uniquely American creation, which developed simultaneously with jazz music in New Orleans. ... Jazz dancing is a form that showcases a dancer's originality. All jazz dancers interpret and execute moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing consists of fancy footwork, big leaps, and quick turns with an emphasis on musicality and presentation! The children's Jazz dance program is taught by our Artistic Director; Andrea Palmer. Please email us at [email protected] for more information!

Kingston School of Dance 24.01.2019

Register today!!! What is Contemporary Dance? Contemporary dance emerged in the 1950's as dancers reacted against the rigid constraints of ballet technique.... Seeking to move with ease and fluidity, dancers began to experiment with manipulating their cores a thought unheard of in classical ballet schools, which taught students to maintain a rigid, upright core throughout dancing. The three most influential choreographers on the development of contemporary dance were Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, and Lester Horton. It is a style that is constantly evolving to reflect current culture. We offer all levels of Contemporary dance classes for children and adults! Please email us at: ksd@kingstonschoolofdance for more information.

Al Gilbert Syllabus Tap NEW on Saturdays ! Starting this Term, our Tap dancers will have the privilege of learning the Al Gilbert Tap system, one of many internationally recognized Tap syllabi.... It was created in 1947 by Mister Gilbert in response to what he felt was a lack of Tap teaching materials for young children at the time. He felt pedagogy and progressive movement (the teaching of Tap steps with a purposeful methodology) was necessary in teaching Tap dance, even to the youngest of dancers. Today, on the eve of its 70th anniversary, the system is world renowned, with grade work and exams available from Primary level dancers, through to the advanced tapper. Some of his previous students include Annette Funicello as well as Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. We are very proud to offer this wonderful Tap syllabus to our students! Don't delay, register today to reserve your child's spot! [email protected]
