Our red truck, kindly donated by ArcelorMittal Dofasco in 2016, providing the pulling-power as our busy clean-up team carry on one of the many Legendary Fall Clean-Ups we've been doing this year
A busy day, so all our machines are out working, even this old beast....
What a lovely message for our supervisor (and me) to receive from one of our fabulous customer's today..... "Hi Alex, Wow is the only way to express how we feel about the work done by Ed and Derek today at our house. When they arrived Ken explained what we would like done and then we left to do our grocery shopping. We came home 2 hours later to absolute perfection every detail carried out just as we asked............ Would you please express our delight to both of the guys who worked here this morning. We really appreciate what they did. If you are ever in the area be sure to come and have a look." ....sometimes Friday 13th is not so bad after all. Kudos to our team and thank-you Mary Jane and Ken
The latest art we are proud to be displaying at the Cafe
It's Wildberry month at Colours Cafe. We listened to our customer's requests and we are pleased to announce the addition of these delightful beverages to our range of food and drink. Enjoy one during the day as a healthy, refreshing option. These smoothies, freshly made, will stave off hunger pangs and provide a well-earned treat, no guilt.
Thank you for your support and encouragement over the years Winnie. Everyone at Rainbow's End wishes you a happy retirement. https://www.stjoes.ca//~2140-After-nearly-five-decades-of-

Rainbows End joins the Buy Social Canada network. We are delighted to announce the fact that we have applied for, and been accepted to join, the Buy Social Canada network. It;s a good fit for Rainbows as we are a progressive social enterprise looking to create more working opportunities for people with lived experience of mental illness and Buy Social Canada helps bring socially motivated purchasers and suppliers (like us) together. Win win. https://www.buysocialcanada.com/about-buy-social-canada
As the outdoor season finally gets going we demonstrate one of the most beneficial jobs you can do to improve the health of your lawn...dethatching (or power raking)
Working during the current crisis. Now Im not going to make a big fuss deal about this and I HOPE theres a reason for it, but yesterday I saw a landscaping crew out working...leveling and top-dressing some grassy areas at the Tim Hortons, 1799 Stone Church Rd E., in Hamilton. We, have a landscape crew that wants to work but we are also cognizant of the rules under which we are all supposed to be operating . Ive checked time and again as the provincial / federal rules get u...pdated. That kind of aesthetic landscaping is NOT ESSENTIAL, it shouldnt be going on. If one company start breaking this lock-down...then why not another, why not all of us...we all need to work. I should have taken a picture, but Im not at that stage of frustration yet...I could soon be there though. To help solve this crisis we should ALL be declining non essential work not just some of us!!! NOT VERY CANADIAN See more
The safety of our teams at the Cafe is paramount and those who have chosen to continue to work are taking all precautions. However we are also trying to help the staff and patients at St Joes hospital West 5th, by providing much needed refreshment. As part of this on-going effort we have introduced a new "take-out" item to our menu. Our super-chef Maribeth, has created a wonderful new lasagna for staff to take home at the end of a hard day. This is our first venture into true take-out food and I offer "congratulations" to Maribeth and her team for their creativity. In addition to being tasty and practical it is packaged in microwaveable, eco-friendly boxes. Oh, and its priced as low as we can go to make it affordable.
Aware that the situation changes frequently, Colours Cafe is still open, but we are mindful of our staffs safety and our commitment to provide refreshments to essential staff, patients and visitors at St. Joes. As per guidelines and common sense, we have no gathering in the Cafe and touchless payment is respectfully requested. All the food and coffee is prepared securely behind the counter and our staff are all super-careful and hygiene aware. The Bistro is essentially closed and being used for food prep only, no over-the-counter sales.
we are delighted to be selling some of the glass jewellery and plates made by Amanda Golench at our Cafe. Amandas story is also a great one...
https://youtu.be/az9ufxbkWDw a great cause to support. Bell Lets Talk Day and their attached funding helped us when we first started Colours Cafe at St. Josephs Hospital, 100 West 5th St., Hamilton.
one of our goals at Rainbows End this year is to try and introduce some simple changes that will avoid waste and help maintain the quality of life for our planet ....
"Growing Strong" initiative to boost employment opportunities and training for people with lived experience of mental illness receives support from Hamilton Community Foundation
Rainbows End is charity that provides employment opportunities for people managing mental health challenges in a series of social enterprises. Now we are in our 22nd year, we have released this short video that summarizes Rainbows Ends mission and talks a little about our landscaping social enterprise, Mow-Town. More importantly it features one of our most experienced team-leaders, Ed. In a few well chosen, unscripted words, Ed explains clearly and sincerely why Rainbows End does what it does. If you would like to know what we do and would like to support us, the information is provided at the end of the video. Thanks Ed, you, as ever, are the most powerful and sincere advocate for our cause.
The ED and team-leader explain what the Hamilton based charitys mission is and why it is so important
"Movie Night" The Cafe has a new 70" TV and Tom will arrange to show some classics throughout the day. This means our customers can take a break from the winter weather and catch a classic flick or timeless comedy. Personally I think a little Laurel and Hardy would go down a treat. "This is another fine mess youve got me into" ...well done Tom, another great idea
You know its time to have your eavetroughs cleaned when they look like this (photo1). So in an hour we went around the entire house, cleaning by hand (photo 2). So now theyre clean as a whistle and wont cause any damage (photo 3)
Preparing for winter with some new, more practical snow blowers and bins.
Transforming Crockett Drive from a jungle into a haven...

Another small deck improvement. Our customer was concerned about safety, so we expedited this repair. New footings and bracing along with a leveling of the whole section. We saved what was good and replaced what was needed in an afternoon. Happy days for all
Quick deck surface replacement by Rainbows End. Half a day to remove, prepare, replace and tidy up. Giving the client the chance to enjoy the sunshine in the afternoon....on one of the few days weve had with good weather so far this year
we couldnt complete the snow clearing job completely the first time around because the ice was so thick and tough. So we go back to finish it correctly. Thank you to our understanding client for giving us a chance to remedy the issue without any drama. Driveway on the left BEFORE, and on the right AFTER...with some green ice melter to ensure it stays safe for the client and is kinder to the environment
Snow clearing like crazy today

So the snow season started early and we rapidly pulled together the route and list of clearing clients, gathered equipment and salt ready to go. What we really needed was a new set of snow tires for the truck...but at short notice? Our thanks to Siggy and his crew at Tirehaus, https://www.tirehaus.ca/ within 30 mins....yes 30 mins of me driving in off the street the truck was back in our shop equipped with a set of beautiful, grippy snow and ice Yokahama tires. Thats service. Thanks to all the guys at Autohaus who keep us rolling so that we can keep our customers rolling
SOMETIMES A CUSTOMER WILL WRITE SOMETHING THAT INSPIRES YOU TO KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON.......oh, and say "thanks Betsy"... Thank you so much! But before I sign off, I do have to mention: I LOVE MowTown and everything you stand for. Im in the business of branding and advertising, so I know a thing or two about what makes a brilliant brand.... I see that YOU deliver true compassion. You put yourselves in the place of the employees you hire and the customers you serveand you bring the best of humanity to both: You deliver, every step of the way. Ive seen your teams beautiful work; Ive loved dealing with ALL of you; your customer service is STELLAR. Yours is a brand to be really proud of. So thrilled to be working with you guys. And you can quote me on that. Yours, Betsy
