Following discussions with the National Indigenous Council and the Elders Council, the United Church of Canada has not signed on to the ecumenical campaign supp...orting Bill C15 on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Both the Council and the Elders cited the need for community discernment, as outlined in the Calls to the Church, before a decision could be taken. This is a reflection of our commitment to the Declaration, which we continue to support as the framework of reconciliation. We also continue to encourage you to learn more. The churches who have taken a position on Bill C15 will be holding a webinar on February 18. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/canada-the-churches-bill-c-15-l

My Daily Minute 60 second inspiration from Norval United Church September 21, 2020 Verse of the day... ....."He said, Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by. Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence." ~ 1 Kings 19:11-12, New Revised Standard Version Something to think about .....It seems these days that we find ourselves immersed in a constant stream of information. Radio. TV. Internet. Social Media. Email. Text messages. It never ends. We are bombarded constantly by information. It is like wind and earthquake and fire, when what we need... is the sound of sheer silence. .....Elijah's searching and his encounter with God very much parallels the quest of many people today. We're bombarded by all the noise. Do we ever get any time for sheer silence? Life is so busy, so very busy, that we all need to find time to take time. To pause. To rest. To listen. Let us pray .....Breath of Life, awaken again in me my deep desire to allow you to draw closer. In that desire, may I ensure the time and space to sit quietly in your peaceful presence. Amen. Wise words ....."When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself." ~ Eckhart Tolle Our video .....I know this one is favourite of many. We sang it yesterday in worship with Norval United. "Come and Find the Quiet Centre." Here are some beautiful harmonies from the T-Wolf Choir of Heritage High School in Vancouver, Washington. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jukLcHj3BA

With all that has been going on in the world the last little while we're feeling the need as a congregation, as Christians, as human beings to listen more. Th...is week we start our series by listening to Henry Reinders from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank about issues of food security. Henry graduated from the University of Guelph in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree, and after working for Dow Chemical for 7 years, he returned to the family dairy farm in Meaford to take it over from his parents. In 2017 he sold the dairy farm to retire from the dairy business, but he still owns 250 acres, part of which he rents out while growing and selling hay on the remaining acres. Henry has been involved with his local Bighead River Foodgrains Project since it started in 1997 and is currently the chair and treasurer of the organization. In January 2020, he accepted the position of Ontario Regional Representative for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. He has been on Food Security Learning Tours to Malawi and India and has been sharing his experiences with congregations and audiences across Ontario. Aside of his Foodgrains involvement, Henry chairs Grown in Grey, a local agricultural education initiative for Grade 5 students, is involved as an elder, trustee and several other capacities at Knox Presbyterian Church in Meaford and helps with the Rocklyn Classic Car and Tractor Show. He also curls in the winter. Henry is married to Shirley and they have 4 grown children and 2 grandchildren.
