More times than not, perseverance and the willingness to be versatile with both location and tackle selection often pays huge dividends. Such was the case today spent today on Lake Winnipeg in pursuit of what else, "Greenbacks!" Today Lake Winnipeg was uncharacteristically calm, at times there was barely a ripple of this massive lakes surface. Walleye were scattered and over all they were somewhat difficult to locate. However, as mentioned in my opening statement, "perseve...rance" pays off, as we managed to boat thirty plus 'eyes with the largest measuring 28-1/4 inches. Granted those thirty plus 'eyes today seemed like really poor results if one were to base it on the unfathomable numbers Hecla Island region has been producing thru May and June. But I'm okay with todays hard earned results, Because from my perspective that simply translates into, "better days ahead over the coming summer months!" See more

An extraordinarily "quick" walleye trip out on Lake Winnipeg this morning produced some awesome results. After a couple of hours of actual fishing time, the grand total of 'eyes boated was 37. Bait of choice, 3/8 oz. "PURPLE PUNCH" pattern flasher-tail jig tipped with a nightcrawler. The 'eyes were anything but aggressive and we quickly found the best and most productive presentation was simply to maintain contact with the bottom, no jigging motion was required. The bite was ever so light as the 'eyes would gently picked up the jig and hold on to it. We'd wait a second or two before setting the hook. This method proved totally effective time after time. . A few Legal size were kept for supper and the majority were released back into the water. Over all it was a decent morning spent on the water!

With hard-water walleye season now positioned in the rear view mirror, it's time to begin focusing on the up and coming open water season, which as we all know is approaching fast! For many who are familiar with Xstream Tackle's lethal line-up of walleye slamming lures, you do not have to be reminded just how deadly these products are on a year round, all season basis. During the 2019 open water walleye season on Lake Winnipeg, this presentation became our most productive go-to presentation. Time after time, walleye slammed this presentation, thus resulting in much higher catch rates!
